Chasiv Yar has been under Russian control since at least last August.
The Russians claimed it last August and the Ukrainians still deny this. Al Jezeera and a few other news sources tend to go with the Russian side, the Western think-tanks like ISW and CSSI tend to back the Ukrainians.
Chasiv Yar falls between Bakhmut and Kostyantynivka. Looking at the first map you posted it would lie seemingly directly on the green and black circle outlining Kostyantynivka, which means the Russians, even if they have taken the entirety of the city, haven't been able to advance very far, if it all, after 6 months.

Russia definitely isn't winning per their goals.
Trump is hitting Russia economically and strategically via Central Asia and the Caribbean in a similar way Reagan did. At the same time he has exposed how Europe has been using the US for decades and depending on us for a military shield. Europe should have been all in behind Ukraine other than jabbering about it. Midnight Hammer on Iran was definitely military action indirectly hurting Russia.
We are doing things behind the scenes in Syria which will help our relations there a LOT. It isn't the CIA involved in things I am aware of via a client in Houston.
Germany could easily have a large industrial scale factory pumping out drones for Ukraine. This would be far more efficient than their being cobbled together in small workshops and less expensive too.
Putin butt boy, Orban, could have been forced to give up his knee pads.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Anyone else remember when people thought Putin was a genius and he would control Ukraine in less than a week?

I never thought that Putin was a genius but I did think that Russia was powerful enough with Ukraine weak enough that it was likely a short war to overrun Ukraine.
Then came the dry rotted tires, maps from pre-Chernobyl meltdown with trenches in the red forest, and Ukrainian TRACTORS
Notice that the route is along the Turkish coastline maybe in Turkish water Likely these ships have Turkish navy screens.

When the Chinese army attacked Vietnam several years after the north overran the entire country, it took ground then had to withdraw due loss of so many men and much of its equipment.
Taking ground while necessary, done this slowly is not the means to a victory with Russia's recruitment/mobilization efforts hitting a stone wall except among some poor Africans and Indians among others. Local governments in Russia are the actual recruiters and less and less are available. Putin is not about to start mobilizing the male population of St. Petersburg or Moscow less he fall from a high window even if he is found in a basement bunker
Military occupations do not work, anymore... they just don't. The empires of the past butchered anybody who looked like they might not acquiesce. That does not happen in a vacuum anymore, given instantaneous global communications.

According to Google:
quote:
As of late July/August 2025, control of Chasiv Yar is heavily contested and divided, with Russian forces holding significant portions, particularly the eastern and central areas, while Ukrainian forces continue to hold positions, primarily in the western part
What did you say? "You see what you want to see". Face, meet mirror.
Chasiv Yar is 10,000 meters west of Bakhmut. That's 10,000 meters the Russia army has moved in THREE frickING YEARS.
That's 10 meters per day. At 1000 casualties per day. That's worse than WW1.

Prof G is a classic case of someone with solid knowledge in a few areas thinking they know everything about everything. Some of his market takes are decent but the economic and political takes can be insufferable at times.

On one point he was correct and at least somewhat vindicated on not wanting the Epstein files released, that there would things in the files implicating innocent people. Now there are a bunch of quotes from people who the FBI even says are crazy and/or not credible associated with his name. And the same is true for others as well. But now it's out there and out there forever.
At this point just release everything and be done with it. I hope anyone accused of anything credible gets a tall tree with a short rope.

Surely they will be up for peace talks as an exit ramp then, right?

OK now ask Google what the date is today dumbass. Like I said Ukraine hasn’t had control of Chasiv Yar since August 2025.

I would not be surprised of these ships were protected by the Turkish navy. Turkey has been playing both sides of this conflict.

OK jagoff. You can believe whatever you want.
Russia has controlled the city since August and have advanced beyond it now. You want to live in fantasy land go ahead.

Russia is trading 1000 casualties a day for 10 meters of daily progress. And you think they're winning. And you accuse me of living in fantasy land?

The Atlantic (via MSN): Something is wrong with Russia’s children
For years, children in Russia have watched their country massacre Ukrainians and condemn hundreds of thousands of its own citizens to injury and death at the front. As violence has come to surround Russian youth, many seem to have become more violent themselves. Last year, the number of juvenile crimes in the country surged by 18 percent. Authorities also reported an uptick in “serious and especially serious” crime. “There is no positive ideology for children in a country fighting a murderous war,” Ilya Barabanov, a Russian journalist, told me. Instead, the war has amplified worldviews that encourage brutality.
