It’s not people on the internet influencing me. It’s the fear of developing Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Which part isn’t true?

There’s dozens of doctors bragging on social media about firing patients for not vaccinating.

There’s financial incentives for doctors to get patients vaccinated.

Those are both true statements. So which part of his story didn’t happen?

I didn’t mean for it to sound like that. Good luck in making your best decision.

That vaccine chart is intentionally misleading. The reason the rates of death for the diseases is so low is because vaccinations have significantly reduced the number of cases over the years. Relatively few to none get those ilnesses, so of course there will be few deaths. If you look at the case fatality rates which measures deaths amongst those who contract the disease, they will be higher than what's shown on that chart. For example measles can result in 3 deaths per thousand of those who contract it.

lol, the entire story. Maybe the Dr decided to no longer have patients that just don't believe in science. But not because of not getting enough money, haha. Just 2 seconds of thought about this and it so obviously just doesn't make any sense, but the anti vaxxers are all about fake stories on the internet to "prove" their point.

I doubt it.

If that were the case, he'd start asking how many patients were certain that climate change was going to burn up the planet in five years or so, or ask whether men can get pregnant, or whether a fetus is a human being, or whether it makes any sense to believe in a natural cause of life on Earth given the (well-calculated, at this point) literally unbelievable odds against it.

Now if he's doing those things, sure, I'll believe it's all about defending the honor of science.

Otherwise...

Pretty telling data that the vaccines didn’t play the role people think they do

It just takes 2 seconds to ask ChatGPT "explain how a medicare doctor is incentivized to administer the pneumococcal vaccine":
quote:

Adherence to Medicare Guidelines: Medicare has specific guidelines for preventive care that doctors must follow to ensure that patients receive the appropriate services. Pneumococcal vaccination is a recommended preventive service for individuals 65 and older, and for those with certain chronic conditions. Doctors are incentivized to adhere to these guidelines because failure to do so could impact their reimbursement rates, and may also affect their standing in quality care programs.

Of course AI is frequently wrong, but probably not in this case.

Pompous, pretentious, condescending, arrogant, smug, know-it-all. Yep, you're a lib. Every accusation by a liberal is actually a confession.

Got 2 words for you lib, first one starts with F and is often referred to as the F-word. Second one ends in u.

Hope the next 204 weeks are absolutely miserable for you. I love drinking your tears.

don't know how anyone can still not know this, but kids were in far more danger running around the neighborhood unsupervised in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and (especially) 90s than they are now. Look up the crime statistics over those decades.

Link your source. My guess is your statistics have very little to do with safety in suburban areas during throes decades.

I've never had staph in my whole life. Played contact sports, wrestling, all that. Active in a public gym space.

Bathing works.

Yes, I remember seeing that all those years ago too.

The data I remember showed that the incidence of those diseases fell through the floor with the advent of widespread indoor plumbing, refrigeration of food, and improved sanitation and cleaning methods and products.

Then they fell again post-vaccine, but not nearly as much. It was like an 80% drop and then another 13% drop or something like that.

I'm not anti-vaccine, per se. If I lived in some poor African country where most people didn't get vaccinated, AND sanitation was poor, AND refrigeration was rare, AND indoor plumbing wasn't readily available, I'd vaccinate for sure. No brainer.

Heck, I got the COVID shot. I'm in a high risk category and just like there wasn't any long term information about the vaccine, neither was there any long term information about the effects of the disease. I wasn't the first one to sign up for it...I waited for several million people to get vaccinated first to find out if there were likely immediate effects, then I weighed the risks and rewards and decided to take it.

I advised both my kids not to, since they were not in any kind of risk category. Especially my oldest, who has anaphylactic tendencies. Has to carry an Epi-pen with her. Was advised by her primary care provider not to get it.

She's surrounded by woke nonsense and she didn't listen and did it anyway, and she subsequently developed heart issues that she didn't have before (about 6 weeks after the booster that I told her not to get). Now she's on medication, probably for the rest of her life.

The point being, it's not an always or never proposition.

Like any medical decision, you weigh the risks and rewards and make the best choice you can with the information available. If I had it to do over again knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have gotten the COVID vaccine, but I didn't know what I know now. i only knew what was available then.

And to elaborate on what 808 said above, you've got to be some kind of moron to let politics make your medical decisions for you. Choosing one way or the other just so you can post "I'm a pureblood" on a political forum is insanity.

He told me to go find another doctor because he wouldn’t make enough money from the Govt. unless I get vaccinated. True story.
Riiiight.

Just FYI, after costs of pneumovax and supply purchase, admin costs, etc. docs clear $20-$30 for giving that shot. Immunity lasts about 5yrs. If $25 ($5/yr) is a game changer for your doc (Hint: It isn't), you should thank him for "firing" you.

You not factoring in the costs that doctors face if they order vaccines and they expire. When those costs were factored in my clinic was losing about $1.50 per PCV23 administered. So we stopped stocking them and just sending the patient to their pharmacy with a prescription. I could easily see some doctors firing patients because of refusing vaccines. I got into a very heated argument with a classmate of mine (yes she is a liberal) at FMX last year about the issue. However, I agree the idea that a doctor would fire a patient because he or she would not make enough money from the government is ridiculous.

Funny how so many here support the freedom to avoid vaccines but will seemingly be the first to downvote those who CHOOSE to get vaccinated.

Good grief.

The rise of violent crime during those decades is an internationally known phenomenon (because it didn't just happen in the US). It's been a huge topic of discussion worldwide b/c no one can explain definitively why it happened or why it subsided. There are a half a dozen or so theories.

It's on frigging Wikipedia, for crying out loud.

Just search "the rise and fall of violent crime in the 20th century." Then search, "did the increase in crime in the 70s impact suburban areas."

You'll get all the sources you want.

It still amazes me that people don't know about this and still think their childhoods were during the "good old days" of "low" crime.
