I had a drinkjing issue from 2001-2004.

As far as welfare, not my thing. Never took food stamps, or any kind of govt assistance.

The fig who wrote that is a raging metrosexual who rides a huffy to work with no seat, and gets off on it.

Yeah she's an RN and I'm sure she makes good money.... Her problem is she's stuck where she is with no way to advance. She needs her BSN to advance in any particular nursing field.
Actually you’d be wrong. She worked her way up to running the county health department.

Watched my son sit at our kitchen table for two years doing advanced chemistry and biology on his way to his nursing degree.

I just assumed it would be considered a “professional” degree

Gosh people - for this context, it is professional that require an advanced degree BEYOND a bachelor's.

Being a mason or a carpenter are a profession. I bet the nurses don't realize that being called a professional could make their pay and work situation worse:

Its like teaching. Some jobs are absolutely "professional," and I think its kind of hard to lump all nursing in one category.

However the main thrust of this action is to reduce costs for students. Schools should lower their tuition in response to less federal money.

I think its a good move by the administration. Schools dont want to lose students, they;ll adjust.

Child care is so expensive because of what the government pays for subsidies or for foster care kids, which causes these businesses to raise prices. Education is the same.

Lol, what? A master's degree in psychology does not make you a professional. You could be a high school grad that specializes in underwater welding, and you're sure as shite a professional.

They’re concerned about this because if they wanted to go back and pursue their PA degree they cannot get financial aid.

They can still get student loans. This just puts a cap on how hard the school can screw them on the tuition. If the FedGov sets the cap at $40K for a 2 year program, the cost will miraculously be $40K. If they raise the cap to $100K, the university will charge $100K.

The nurses are bent out of shape because Chiropractors and Theology degrees are considered professional.

I did not know there were any limits on how much you could borrow for student loans. How are people graduating from Ivy League schools with $500k in debt with a gender studies degree?
A mix of federal and private loans

“a shortage of healthcare workers would be fricking awesome”

There is already a shortage of healthcare workers, reports are there is a shortage of 550 nurses in Central Louisiana.
I recently did a Google deep dive into nursing shortages worldwide, virtually every country in the world has a shortage of nurses.Specifically, not a whole lot of nurses want to do direct pt.care (bedside nursing).
I did it for 35 years and found it rewarding but I can also see why a lot of people don’t want to do it. Same reason less and less people want to be police.
You have to deal with lots of unpleasantries, probably have to rotate nights, absolutely have to rotate weekends and holidays. Most bedside jobs are 12 hour shifts which is not good for mothers with children.Factor in the obesity epidemic,300- 500 lb pts,are very physically demanding.I saw a lot of very good nurses leave because they just physically could not do it.
Myself it was a big reason I retired at 60,as a male I was a defacto orderly, spent way too much time assisting in turning, pulling up these pts.in bed, etc. My shoulders were wrecked, last 2 years I worked and for a year after I retired I had to sleep in a lounge chair. My L shoulder recovered completely,my R has never gotten back to normal.

I graduatepd 1975,there was a shortage of nurses then and 50 years later there is still a shortage.I worked under these shortage conditions majority of my career.Besides the problem of not having sufficient nurses I was often hassled to work overtime, come in on my days off, would lay guilt trips on you if you wouldn’t.I actually would feel guilty like I was leaving my co-workers in the lurch but I reached a certain age I just decided it was too much,I wasn’t going to do it except under extreme circumstances.

As far as the lowering the cap on student loans it will make it impossible for a lot of people to go to NP,PA school. The curriculum is very demanding and it would be very difficult for people if they had to work on the side, esp.if they have children.CRNA students absolutely can not work on the side.

You could have just said you didn’t know a thing about it.

Part of it was running the clinic seeing patients, you do know nurses do most of that work right?
