Ron running this year was the absolute worst thing to happen to the Republican Party in 2024 and likely extending into 2028. The Trump faction of the GOP is here forever and ever. This wasn't a one trick pony. It isn't going away no matter WHAT happens. I'm sure the Ron! people are aware of that but sometimes, I think just losing is the GOP's natural preferred position.

That's such an insane take. Y'all would rather lose with Trump than not cast your vote for him. That's worshipping a politician and about as swampy as it gets.

Your country should come first, not stroking the ego of one man.

Not sure why people do not see it this way. If Trump wins Desantis is not going to win in 4 years. Trump will be followed by someone from the opposite party. Desantis will no longer be governor. Maybe he can run for senate. Who will be Trumps running mate? You would think he would endorse them and not Desantis who he will have beaten four years before.

This is one of my biggest issues with Trump sycophants. They have no plan beyond fantasizing about Trump going scorched earth. They can’t even describe exactly what that looks like, but for four years it sure will be fun.

No he won't, that's the problem.

He will immediately be a lame duck, and everyone will just ignore him.

Anything he tries the left knows how to deal with him. They will sue, impeach, obfuscate, and they know that he will get nothing accomplished.

I thought presidents can only serve 2 consecutive terms. They can serve more as long as they are not consecutive, no?

I would love 12 years with don then ron, but no matter how well Trump does If he wins, I don’t see how the democrats won’t ramp up cheating to ensure that they get theirs after 4 more years of butt hurt.

It’s ok to like both. DeSantis has been the best red state governor in my lifetime at pushing real conservative policy and putting together a boots on the ground campaign that can get votes out and sway independent votes to his side through a solid platform. And trump is the best president of my lifetime and I’d vote for him without question if he’s the nominee.

I would kill to have this “problem” every 4 years in the primary instead of what we usually get as far as quality candidates to pick from. Don’t get so caught up in the trump vs DeSantis debate to miss how good we have it this time.

That's where you're wrong. You're a blip on the radar. I totally understand feeling like you're a part of a cool populist movement, but it has no future. This piece helped me snap out of the trance you are in.

I don't know how often we are going to see two term presidents again. The country is way more split and wishy washy.

By design, the President doesn’t have a lot of power—unless he gets A LOT of cooperation in Congress. Trump has little to Congressional help.

That’s why thinking that Trump will be some messianic savior is silly.

I really hoped Trump would lay out some sort of plan on how he would get some stuff done ina second term that he couldn’t get done in the first term. 2022 showed he cannot (or wouldn’t) do that. His prospective congressional help lost. And now he’s campaigning on “it’s all about me!”.

His attacks on DeSantis only affirm this. And his appropriation of Democrat talking points to do it—just makes It almost impossible for Congressional Republicans to help him.

The agenda is toast even if (especially if?) he wins.

Yeah dude. Trump is doing little to curry favor with republicans. You know, not you or me but those who will be responsible to do legislative business. So he will destroy DeSantis and let's say he is elected. HE IS A LAME DUCK FROM DAY 1. And forgive me for repeating myself. But if he pisses off the members of congress they will impeach him and find the sixteen or so GOP members in the senate to drum him out of office. And because he is a lame duck nobody needs to pay much attention to him.

I do wonder sometimes if some folks hold an idealistic vision roughly along the lines of the Goths or Vandals storming Rome. The corrupt DC Goliath being overwhelmed, overthrown and swept out.

It wouldn’t be that way of course. The DC establishment is too entrenched and fortified and they aren’t going to be chased out by any one person or movement.

I would vote for Trump if he is the nominee as I have twice before but if he were to gain the WH again, my expectations are much more tempered.

At best, I would hope enough is accomplished that momentum itself and a successor who is devoted to the same outcome would see the job through.

It may well be that the best chance for lasting change in DC will somehow have to be accomplished the same way alot has been lost. From within.
