re: Q: Why no diversity in your movie cast? A: It's about Denmark in the 1750s.

Also, you’re talking about propriety and referring to people at Orientals?
I'm talking about the suspension of disbelief in the viewers of the films. It's more difficult when races are confused, but it's nothing new to get outraged over, it's just kind of flipped around.
Do you have a problem with the term "oriental"?

That race isn’t in charge of forcing itself into these movies. Someone made the decision to do it and most likely, it wasn’t someone of that race.
Nick Fuentes can tell you who's pushing this...

On the one hand, particularly black folks really into the modern era of cinema (1970s and 1980s) were largely relegated to domestic servants (or otherwise subservient characters), clownish comic relief or criminal roles. And that is if they got any work at all. I understand and accept this was largely reflecting their restricted role in society of that same era.
This isn't true of the 80s. Ernie Hudson in Ghostbusters. Eddie Murphy. Mr T. Denzel. Morgan Freeman. Lawrence Fishburn. Sidney Poitier. Richard Pryor. Bill Cosby. Danny Glover. Carl Weathers.
All them were the main stars or in serious supporting roles. They weren't the help. They weren't comic relief. They weren't criminals.
The 80s and 90s were the least racist decades we've ever seen.
Now, the racism is strictly against White people.

What’s up with the Jap Mozart?

Then why do we never hear from prominent black people saying WTF when it happens?
Because many of us don’t care to yell out clouds. I don’t expect my complaints to matter one bit so I don’t waste time publicly getting upset about it.

The reporter is calling out the double standard and he thinks it's wrong what is happening today.

Brigderton is something different, as it's not pretending to be a historical drama and declares itself to be in an alternative version of history. The diversity in Bridgerton has the same suspension of disbelief a typical action movie or superhero movie requires.
Dear Lord, make it stop. Seriously, were you like this as a child? If so, I don’t see how your parents maintained their sanity. I bet you argued with them until they sent you to your room, then you sat in there and argued with yourself, my dude.
“What color is the circle in the top left of the image?”
Rando: “White.”
SFP: “I really don’t think you have enough information to call that color white.”
Rando: “I learned my colors as a child, plus it’s clearly labeled white.”
SFP: “Yes, but others may perceive it differently. Some may call it “bone,” others may call it “ivory.” I think you’re really limiting things by calling it “white.”
Rando: *pulls own hair out

Maybe the reporter wasn't so dumb but the bigger point is that having a diversity requirement is idiocy.
Yep, and that was the reporter’s point.

I'm all for being objective but I just can't defend this sort of thing.
I get it that Cursed is a far out fictional version of the King Arthur mythos but sorry, there were no black people in Britain around the mid early millenium.
If you want to suspend belief I guess go for it. Maybe there are some people who enjoy that but I can't watch it more than a couple of minutes before laughing and switching to something else.

Fair enough, the 80s were a decade of changing perceptions. Cosby started in the mid-80s. Eddie was up there with the top box office draws of the decade, etc.

I agree.

If we're talking about a movie trying to depict actual history, I agree 100%
I just don't care as much if it's some fictional setting, ESPECIALLY if its original content. Just like I don't get upset when superheroes exist or people take full punches without even a bruise, let alone a concussion, or people get thrown through glass without a cut, etc.
Now, where it gets complicated is if you're remaking a fictional story that's specific to a culture/history. Like the Odyssey, for a contemporary example.

The wayan brothers in white face.
A comedy called white girls.

Jodie Turner-Smith isn't trying to be white.
She’s playing a woman who actually existed who was white. It’s a lot different than race-swapping a fictional character. That series was pretty much universally panned by both British and American audiences.

WWII screenplay idea:
1. Nazis cast entirely by jewish actors.
2. Concentration camp prisoners cast entirely by black people.
If anyone voices concern about historical inaccuracy and misrepresentation, I will tell them to stop being fragile and that I’m just taking creative liberties
