Marijuana should be legalized at the federal level just as alcohol is now and the states should decide individually how they want marijuana to be sold and taxed. The Feds should not be in the marijuana business.
Wait, you're under the presumption alcohol isn't taxed at the federal level? I've some bad news for you

Did it pass? Republicans are getting criticized, but they are the minority, so doesn’t mean shite…..

It passed the House, but it probably needs 3-4 Republican votes to get it passed in the Senate which means it is not getting passed in the Senate.

Not sure the senate will touch it to be honest. Too many pubs/dems dont want to be on the record for this one.
I hope the pubs bring up their own version in the next congress. One without the pork and a another agency...just let the states regulate their own shite.

Why not legalize/decriminalize all drugs? Then we’ll check on society in a few years and see if things are better.

I'd trade property taxes, income taxes, licensing fees, etc, etc, etc for a national VAT tax that EVERYONE paid. I'd do that tomorrow if I could.
As would I.
But we both know that shite isn't going to happen.
We are just going to get all of them combined and then a tax on everyone because we have so many taxes

Good. No more secondhand smoke.

That is the goal of Nancy Mace...

It is, just saying marijuana should not be. Too much bureaucracy involved.

At this point only the hardcore evangelicals are against weed legalization
GOP needs to let this issue go. Wish they’d fight so hard against shite that matters

Exactly, you’re either for personal liberty or you’re not
Funny how this is the same argument the Groomers could use.
Personal liberty isn't the same as anarchy. Unless that is what you want, then just come out and decriminalize all drug-use and the repercussions that come from them, giving the users more rights then the non-users.
And yes Alcohol is legal, but lets not forget that the govt tried to put that genie back in the bottle and they couldn't. Stoners are like a dog with a bone with that stupid argument. If weed is not bad then find something that is respectable to hang your argument on.
Repercussions proof is in the west coast states. If you want to smoke, do it. Not a single person supporting it in this thread is concerned about going to jail when they go get their weekly supply for personal use. Or if you are concerned about it, move to the plenty of states that allow it. And don't come back with the whole "well their taxes are high, and have bad politics"....well no shite sherlock.

While I agree with you to a point, if they do let it go, I bet you'll be the first to have a problem when someone is shooting heroin at your grandkid's basketball game.
Member when homosexuals just wanted the right to be married? I member. Now a 16 year old can't get a tattoo, but they can have gender reassignment surgery, and grooming kids to be homosexual or transgender is accepted practice at companies like Disney.

I think like 3 Republicans voted for it and 200 against. It’s laughable
You won't win any favor by being dishonest.
The bill passed the house, it failed in the Senate where Pedocrats have the advantage.
Why didn't they try harder?
They sure managed to push some shite through despite opposition from the Reps before.
quote:
While the bill did pass in the House, supported mostly by Democrats and a few Republicans, the outlook in the Senate is a lot more grim.
It would need to be approved by all Democrats and 10 Republican senators.
And right now, political watchers say there are just not enough votes.
Instead, Senate Democrats are working on their own version of the bill.
While it's similar, it would impose a much higher tax rate on the drug.
Just keep voting them in and they'll keep trying.

So, no. You aren't willing to admit your position is an outlier among libertarian types.
quote:We should, yes. It will still pale in comparison to the healthcare costs of 100 million + fatties, but it's still worthwhile.
Shall we count together the number of murders, rapes, robberies, and other violent crimes perpetrated by criminal illegals upon American citizens every year? Then we can ponder the 15 to 25 billion dollars of taxpayer money spent on criminal illegals every year, and how that violates our rights.
quote:I think you misunderstand my point. The kids, yes. But I'm talking about adults eating THEMSELVES into oblivion and then foisting those negative healthcare externalities on the rest of us. Prison for them too?
Not just abuse and abandonment, but this is your strawman, so build away. I believe there are consequences for parents who malnourish their kids, but just for consistency's sake, you think there should be none for a parent who decides that their kids diet should consist of 3 twinkies and 3 can of Coke per day, right?

quote:Portugal did not legalize drugs they decriminalized them for personal use. They also have panels that force some users into treatment. Penalties remain for those convicted of manufacturing, importing, and selling drugs. Drug dealers are still subject to the same criminal penalties as before.
I would love to see this country follow the Portuguese Model regarding drugs. Google Portuguese Drug Laws now.
LEGALIZE THEM ALL! Let the gooberment sell the drugs
quote:
If you have more than 10 days of personal use worth, you're still going to jail. If you have less than that, your drugs are confiscated and you are issued a summons to appear before an administrative panel called a Commission for the Dissuasion of Drug Addiction. Nothing will go on your criminal record.
That commission consists of an attorney, a psychiatrist, a chemical dependency social worker, and sometimes a judge. They'll consider your history and your situation, and then render their decision. They may choose to let you go with no sanctions at all other than some advice to stop doing drugs, which is usually what happens to first time offenders whose cases are deemed low risk, and this is what the commissions do in the majority of cases. They can fine repeat offenders, but the fines are typically small and tailored to your ability to pay. They can sentence you to community service. They can suspend your professional licenses. They can ban you from going to certain places or associating with certain people. They can terminate any social assistance you may receive. They can confiscate personal property and cancel your firearms license. They can require you to report back to them. About the only thing they can't do is send you to prison. Getting caught using drugs in Portugal is no laughing matter; it is not a place where you can freely roll around doing drugs with no concern. They've simply restructured the punishments from those that are proven to prolong drug problems to ones that are intended to reduce them.
