Let’s play a game. I wield a shovel, you a gun. I come at you with that shovel and let’s see how you react. You gonna be a pussy and shoot me, or you gonna man up and let me beat you with that shovel?

You will get banned for calling these folks derogatory terms.
Why was this violent misfit not in a violent misfit facility somewhere, receiving violent misfit treatment? He was clearly unable to be around other people.

“Not a weapon”????? Are you serious? If he’d hit him over the head with that, it could’ve killed him. These news agencies purposefully word things to make them look innocent. They are provacatures and should be treated as such. They should name the tool and be clear that serious damage could’ve occurred but they’d rather people think it was a plastic rake or water hose.

Getting killed by an autistic person or a crash person makes you just as dead as someone who was killed by a same criminal.
That person was man sized and attacking an officer with a deadly weapon.
The person attacking an officer with a deadly weapon was killed.
It's the family's fault for leaving deadly weapons the kid can get ahold of out in the open.
And yes, I realize almost anything can be used as a deadly weapon. Still family's fault.

Did the office know the kid was autistic when the kid was charging him? Not that it's relevant, the kid was charging him with a weapon. Nowhere near enough time to change to less lethal option at that.

It might have been a mistake to turn his back and run, but the officer was clearly trying to give the man a chance to save his own life……which put the officers life in grave danger.
But there are some criteria involved here that toss common sense out the window.

training in de-arming someone?
Center mass is their training. Shoot an arm enough times to remove it? That would be tough to train for.
Ya goof.

Who fricking cares. Someone comes at me with anything that could be used as a weapon, they will die. Period.
I don't care what their bullshite medical diagnosis says.
I stay strapped 365 days a year and I ain't asking anyone for their medical history before I defend myself.
If that had been me on the street, that kid would be dead just the same.

I’d like to see more information. They handing out autism diagnoses like they come with opening a new bank account.
That was my first thought as well. The moment a kid acts out, there are those whose first reaction is to look for some malady to blame instead of holding a kid responsible for their actions.
"Autism" is the number one diagnosis for collecting SSI. LINK
To go along with that...

No, they definitely don't teach cops how to remove people's arms.

In the hands of an out of control individual this "gardening tool" becomes a deadly weapon.

An axe is a "gardening tool," you moron. Just because it's a "gardening tool" doesn't mean it can't injure or kill you.

You also don't know that that is true in this particular case. Not everyone who is autistic is that mentally limited.
But even if it is true—it's a tragedy, all right—but the officer can't allow himself to be assaulted with a potentially deadly weapon just because the person doing the assaulting is (supposedly) mentally incapable of appreciating the circumstances.
Based on what we can see on the video, I'm sorry for the kid. Sorry for the officer who now has to live with being involved in a fatal shooting. Sorry for the parents. Nothing good came out of this. But it wasn't the officer's fault.
