I grant you that entertainers fill a need when humans need an escape after hard work.

You missed the point of the message. Doctors, teachers, plumbers, etc,. are needed, while entertainers are not. Entertainers should entertain, but we don't need them and certainly should not give any extra weight to any political message they spew.

I think you confuse the concept of NEED and WANT.
As OP was saying, you need a doctor when your sick, has nothing to do with want.
You want the entertainment. And even if you try and make the case that entertainment is a need for a break from life for mental stability, you have choices of various types of entertainment. If my heart is failing then I have no choice, I NEED a heart surgeon. If my pipes bust in a freeze, I NEED a plumber.
The point OP is trying to make is that society in general and some entertainers specifically place way too much value on the entertainers and what they are saying.

People admire great singers, musicians, and dancers without realizing they could sing, play music, and dance themselves. You can create works of art. You could write plays and short stories. Why rely on people you share nothing in common with to entertain you?
There’s so much you can do every day to be a creative person. Even if you’re not any good at it… you can still be entertained. And you won’t even be bad at it for long.
