I’m assuming this is driven by teacher unions. Apparently they are a bunch of districts across the country moving to 4 day school weeks because teachers are burnt out

Shouldn’t that be left up to the individual employers instead of the government?

As technology has increased (email, cell phones, etc.) our productivity has directly increased as well. That being said, the increase in efficiency should have led to a decrease in the work week but in reality the work week has inversely increased to where most are expected to work well beyond 40 hours a week since you can now reach anyone, anytime basically.

Screw that crap ....I run a successful sales team ...want to work only 32 hours a week? Find another job.

I walk in the door at 6am each morning. Shipping, Engineering, Field Services and the Plant Manager all meet me in the hall before I get to my office. Can't carry your weight? ...I'll show you the door.

The 32-hour workweek will make steep hikes in the federal minimum wage a moral imperative, in order to recover lost income.

Can you imagine the burden this puts on the taxpayer for all the government employees we have???

24 million employees (estimated) across all levels of government is a lot of your dollars.

So you can cut everyone's hours from 30 to 28 by making it a 4x7
you think we’re just gonna let companies do that

exactly! currently salaried myself and some weeks it takes me 25 hours to get the work done, and other weeks it takes 50 or more. It just depends on the workload/season we are in. It's silly that I have to sit at my desk during the off season till the end of the day with nothing to do just bc of some arbitrary HR rule that was written for the whole company. Salaried folks are paid for results, not by the hour, yet we get treated like an hourly worker in terms of seat time.

IMO you incentivize people to work harder by letting them go home when they've finished a project (assuming there's not another project waiting in the queue).

This isn't how a company looks at their workforce. Here's how some manufacturing companies work the incentive game. They establish an incentive quota for a machine operator to produce x amount of production/hr, once the operator achieves and then surpasses his quota and earns the incentive bonus the production engineer will inevitably turn up the machine's production capabilities with a quick PLC programming change and the game starts all over. It's the same with salaried employees, once you proven yourself to be a good project manager.....typically you get more difficult projects and more of them.

Also note that calculations are always made to determine if an investment in automation is worth it in order to reduce labor costs.
The higher the labor costs, the easier it is to justify getting rid of an employee.
Government Joe has no concept of this since he's been in an Utopian government mindset for 50 years.

So are we still just going to let minimum wage sit at 7.25? It’s going on 13 years.

The labor market has shown that minimum wage is irrelevant.

Hopefully it is abolished entirely.

The only thing this will accomplish is lowering the amount of hours companies give their employees, causing the employees to make less money while hiring a few extra workers to compensate.

More people will have to sign up for government benefits or get another job.
