This is where the stupid shite Trump says gets him in trouble. There is tension between Greenlanders and Denmark that is ripe for being exploited. Sending Rubio as an envoy to broker closer ties with Greenland is brilliant. And yeah, we need that relationship to continue to be strong, especially with increased Russian and Chinese presence in the area. But talking about it like it's just a chunk of terrritory that "we need" and are going to take, especially on the heels of the Venezuela operation, is stupid because it just pisses off the people you're about to try to negotiate with. It's an unforced error.

Greenland was Norwegian. Denmark took it.
Greenland was settled by Norse from Norway and Iceland around 985, led by Erik the Red, and in 1261, Greenland formally submitted to the Norwegian crown and became part of the Norwegian realm as a tax land.
When Norway entered a union with Denmark (1380 / Kalmar Union), Greenland followed because it was Norwegian.
The decisive theft came in 1814: After the Napoleonic wars, Denmark was forced to give up Norway, but illegally kept Norway’s overseas territories: Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands.
Denmark didn’t inherit Greenland. They kept what belonged to Norway.
History matters, and this one must be so inconvenient atm.

If Trump buys Greenland - I’m moving there. I will formulate a nation state, and institute a constitutional convention which clearly defines citizenship, has a census counting citizens and noncitizens, but only citizens the purposes of representation, with the Bill of Rights made into Article VI

Lol, there are like 57k people on Greenland. The mineral wealth alone makes it a no brainer if something can be worked out. Lol, Trump has no plan to conquer Greenland he is just using his leverage strategy to get what he wants by making people think he wants something else .

They can't afford it. They are really more enamored with the ice sheet and polar bears than the 60,000 residents. What kind of defense industry does Denmark have to make them a world power and a buttress against Russia and China? The thought of having to deal with that would make them nervous. They need to find a way to let Greenland come under the fold. The US is not an evil imperialist country.

We’re a rogue nation now. How do we expect the rest of the world to behave when we’re threatening to steal territory. Trump has set A LOT of bad precedents but this might be the worst if he goes through with it.
JD Vance was right when he said Trump could be America’s Hitler.
