It would also make it sovereign US land. Just another big reason for China and Russia to stay the frick away.

Getting Greenland makes their influence and their world smaller and ours bigger simply by having US land there.

Not Danish or Greenland land that we have bases on and can do whatever, but actual US land. That’s a much bigger deterrent to our enemies.

It’s not for sale and Trump is tanking relations with our allies. This is very simple to understand.

I’ve a feeling his plan is to shoot his shot to see if he can actually get it (it’s always no if you don’t try), but if not he’ll negotiate something like you’ve laid out.

Does his desire to take Greenland rather than share have more to do with the future of AI, the materials available there for AI parts, and the natural cooling obtained for massive data centers?

Because we already have that.

Trump asserts it is essential that America own Greenland — even though the U.S. already maintains a military base there — because of national security concerns posed by China and Russia.

I really fail to see the disagreement here. From a natural resource standpoint, it is quite attractive. From a strategic standpoint, it’s about cutting China off at the pass. The last thing you want is to be complacent and suddenly China and Russia have deals with Denmark regarding Greenland.. You essentially have to go back one year to find an example of how quickly complacency is taken advantage of. Early last year this administration had to move quickly to prevent a deal that allowed China to take control of the Panama Canal that came about because the Biden administration was asleep at the wheel..

Trump more than anyone in DC understands that a future democrat administration can’t be relied on to prevent a China or Russia from moving into the region.. Hell, for 8 years the Obama administration did nothing to prevent China from building fake islands throughout the South China Sea to claim territory and control of shipping lanes. Furthermore they let China expand their Silk Road all throughout the region by building and controlling military bases and ports all over the globe. they almost gained control of some ports here.

It’s not simply about buying an island. It is a strategic foothold into our hemisphere, that we need to control for no other reason than we have politicians who are too stupid and corrupt to be trusted to keep it out of China and Russia’s hands

For the love of god, this isn’t hard:

1. We already have a military presence there.

2. If someone invaded Greenland, Denmark would invoke article 5 so there is just as big of a deterrent as if it was US land.

3. Who the hell is going to occupy it? Russia? The country who couldn’t maintain coordinated supply lines to Kyiv resulting in long columns of unfueled equipment? China? A country that has no modern experience in warfare and all that is required whatsoever?

Any country that tries to put troops there wouldn’t be able to support them and those troops would just get bombed into oblivion.

Seriously, anyone who actually thinks we need Greenland to keep Russia or China from taking it over has a negative amount of brain cells.

Greenland and Denmark have repeatedly insisted that the territory is not for sale and has no wish to be absorbed into America.

I'm not interested in what the mouthpieces of Greenland and Denmark have to say.

What do the people of Greenland want? If they just absolutely reject the idea of a symbiosis with the USA as a majority, and there's no way to get them on board, then just back off of it. Period. But if they want a symbiotic relationship, let them decide at the ballot box.

Acquiring in via peaceful terms is not "dumb" at all. But if we are using threats and coercion to acquire, we are spreading ourselves too thin. We need to focus our enemies instead of making new ones.

Europe isn't our friend. Greenland gives the US full control of shipping lanes. We want a Navy/Sub Base.

Trump’s ideas are more and more isolationist.

What advice is he being given?

The kind of people who are talking to him on a daily basis are giving him some very closed minded ideas.

The US has been funding NATO for decades. I for one don't give a shite what the reason is they say they need it. I support them acquiring it - period.

Yes, they cared very much about it.

Only they were opposed to it.

If anyone else had suggested this they would have been a Globalist Imperialist Joo sympathizer Deep State neocon trying to start WWIII for profit and they almost certainly would have thrown in that there would have been no way they would have been willing to send their children overseas to die for something like fighting over acquiring Greenland.

When Trump does it is just badass.

You know. Populism.
