the once in a lifetime chance here to remove probably our biggest geopolitical thorn outside of China and Russia
I commented similar earlier in the week. US has opportunity and excuse to destroy a lot of shiny Iranian toys. Bust their military real bad this go round. Set up a future civil Iran for a less militaristic future.

All the dumb bullshite this administration has done will be irrelevant if they foster transition to a west-friendly democracy in Iran.

Witkoff must be a very gullible person. He has repeatedly believed Russia’s lies and now he believes Iran’s lies.
The more likely answer is it’s WaPo anonymous sources bullshite & there’s more in play behind the scenes that we’re not privy to.

chemicals to make the mustard gas that killed half a million Iranians in the iraq-iran war.
Yes, we(CIA), were backing Saddam in the 1980’s, of course we were. We had just endured the humiliation of the Iran Hostage ordeal and even to this day Saddam Hussein is the lesser of the two evils.
Also, the 1980’s weren’t WWI technology and delivery systems. The lethality of the chemical weapons wasn’t Mustard gas, but nerve gas/agents specifically Sarin, Tabun, & VX. Tabun and Sarin were verified in the corpses.

I doubt the Saudis want a Free Iran
Thats just competition for them
The Saudis would love a free and stable Iran. There is no downside for them in that. What they fear is regime change leading to instability and Muslim warlords getting hold of Iran’s oil and using it to foment terror in Saudi Arabia.

Crush the IRGC and the regime will fall
True, and you don’t even have to crush them. All we have to do is change the calculation of the IRGC so that it’s easier to support the uprising. The worst of them have to be killed, because there is no accommodating the war criminals among them. They will be hard core because they know they can’t flip. But either kill them or give them an escape hatch then the rest will go where the money is and the risk isn’t.
Our military and CIA has the plan for this. Trump is mobilizing them for the plan. Will he pull the trigger? I sure hope so.

I heard today that the Abraham Lincoln Carrier group. will take over a week to get to the Middle East. Maybe he’s waiting for them to get there before anything happens. That definitely makes sense

They started around Thursday. Should be in place by mid week

Iranian protesters say they were betrayed by Trump.
“Trump is worse than Obama,” said a 40-year-old businessman in Tehran, who said he called friends and relatives.
Lol

Those videos look like Minneapolis on a Thursday night.

Would that 40 year old shop owner prefer we half arse it, or do it right the first time? We are going to probably launch hundreds of missiles at IRGC targets.
The regime can't recover economically, and if the numbers killed is anywhere close to 23k (cited) then they are trying to figure out how to escape in one piece.

Yes, an old Navy buddy of mine said the U.S. pretty much does NOTHING unless a carrier is in the nearby body of water. Other than maybe some cyber attacks or something similar.
