SB624, which was introduced in January by State Senator Saddam Azlan Salim – a Democrat from Northern Virginia's 37th district – seeks to to "define and punish" cases of "Islamophobia" as it "relates to the crime of assault and battery as malicious prejudice or hatred directed toward Islam or Muslims."
If you don't physically attack Muslims, why should you be concerned about this?

Muslims are like the wild pigs that run loose all over Texas. An invasive species that reproduces like crazy and plagues the native ecosystem like any other invasive species

Because they think words are physical attacks. WORDS.

Won’t pass. Even if it did, SCOTUS would shoot it down.

Useful idiots being enriched to implement the WEF European Playbook. Goal is simply to make any move forward with this which creates a new standard closer to what they want, so they can keep inching closer and closer and closer as they get more of them in power throughout the country.

Now do Christianphobia
If there was an ounce of spine in the Republican Party, they would introduce a bill that exactly mimics that other bill except for the Islam references you swap for Christian.
But.. alas....

The UK has already shown us what happens:
28 month prison sentence. That's one case of many. The police ignoring carjackings, car burnings, etc., in order to arrest pensioners is a meme.

Piers Morgan wrote on X: "In Britain, we now jail the likes of Lucy Connolly for dumb, incendiary social media posts (that she deleted), but 1000s chant about killing people at a major music festival, live on our publicly funded broadcaster, and nobody seems to care. Outrageous double standard."

UK police have increasingly arrested people over social-media posts, with reporting that forces made “more than 30 arrests a day” (over 12,000 a year in 2023) for offensive online communications cited in parliamentary and media sources [1] [2]. High-profile cases include arrests during the 2024 riots when more than 30 people were arrested for social posts [3], and the 2025 Heathrow arrest of comedy writer Graham Linehan on suspicion of inciting violence over X posts [4] [5]

That doesn’t mean they won’t try. Progressive judges will try to say your free speech doesn’t give you license for hate speech.

I disagree with this garbage to the same degree as the anti-semitism laws being pushed.
(On a side note, would a crime be a hate crime if you actually liked the person, but they were just being an a-hole at the time?)

If I am reading it correctly I doubt it has a problem in the courts. It reads like other hate crime legislation. If you assault and batter someone and use language that indicates motivation related to religion then hate crime.

I'm sure they said that in the UK too, before they started being arrested for social media posts.

Does it single out only Islam? Seems like it would need to relate to all beliefs to pass muster, even though we all know this would never be used to protect Christians.

You clearly didn't read the proposed statute.

The bill says this…
religious conviction (including Islam)…
So why did that need added at all?
They are doing what other groups are doing and trying to achieve a special status. There are different motivations for that but protecting goat humping Muslim radicals is certainly one.

If you physically attack Muslims, there are already statutes on the book for that.
So ask yourself why they want more statutes if there already are statutes.

I wonder if he feels the same way about a similar bill for Jews? I doubt it.
