Yea she’s been bad all tournament and in the lead up

She’s lost her athletic advantage

Never had good pace or technical ability

She’s 38 and should’ve never been in the team. But she is more important than actually putting together a quality side. Gotta get those woke points.

It feels like they are stuck between the past and future, and Vlatko hasn’t handled the transition well. I’d be more understanding if they had turned it over to the young guard instead of trying to straddle the line. Sure, injuries have hurt. Swanson, Mewis, Sauerbrunn, and Macario would probably have changed this team significantly.

But playing Morgan up top instead of Smith with Williams on the wing doesn’t give us an optimal lineup. Ertz being stuck at CB for a full 90 instead of finding a way to move her up to a defensive mid position limits her effectiveness (she should also probably be a sub after two years off). Vlatko only using one sub against Netherlands burned out half the team, and most of them were running on fumes by the end of the Portugal game.

It feels like the team isn’t as close off-the-field as they were in the past, which seems to translate to games.

All that being said, Girma looks terrific! Rodman and Smith have both looked dangerous at times. Lavelle had a few moments. Alyssa Thompson made one of the smartest plays of the match ensuring the ball went out for a throw instead of a goal kick.

Maybe they just aren’t very good and other countries actually putting anything assembling resources to their womens teams ha shown that USWNT is mediocre and skated ok having more resources all these years.

They aren’t actually better and don’t have the built in advantage anymore. The men never had that advantage, but somehow were expected to be their equal against the other nations.

Shows how blind people are when they support these morons.

The world has caught up

That was clear in the last WC

It’s only made the gap smaller, more leagues have helped professionalize everything

Also the NWSL can’t compete with the spending power of the WSL and some of the continental European clubs.

Also throw in the fact college soccer is still the main feeder for the NWSL while in Europe these girls are pros now at 18.

This coach for the USA women's team is not good. They will get knocked out next match and hopefully he gets sacked.

Well the squad isn’t head and shoulders better than everyone anymore

The best player in the tournament isn’t an American. It usually was other than Marta. It was Marta than the next 5 would be Americans.

Sam Kerr and Lauren James are levels above everyone else. No one is going offering world record transfer fees for American players like Arsenal did for Russo.

Mary Earps is the best Goalkeeper in the tournament

The USWNT just used to out athlete everyone in the classic American sporting sense. It would take a fluke or a moment of individual brilliance for them to lose years ago.

Well we know trying to out athlete teams in this sport doesn’t work when your opponent is technically and tactically good. The world is using their knowledge from the men’s game and putting it into the ladies now.

One of my kiddos is a consultant--- goalie consultant.
The last world cup in France and the team she was a "consultant " for was Sweden.

Sweden beat Germany in the semifinals

Sweden came in third

Goalie work

... well, you wake up on a Tuesday morning and you see USA has tied Portugal, casting USA as runner-up in group

Guess who USA has to play first off in knock-out round ?

Sweden

Guess which team one of my kiddos is consulting ???

Sweden

... goalie work

For years my kiddo had to listen to my moto "soccer politics will kill the sport" since 1996 and not believing it was true ...

Well, today it is being proven otherwise ...

... the flaw has become fact ...

Congrats to the women for securing $6.5mm as their share of the men’s earnings last year. Looks like they are going to need it.

I would be so frustrated if I was on the USMNT.

And we wonder why our soft men's team never accomplishes anything. Without Title IX, the USWNT never would have dominated. Now that the Europeans have woken up about the women's game, our team will never dominate again. Do they keep getting that 6.5m if they start losing?

I wonder if 20 or 30 years from now, people will badmouth women's soccer players who didn't play extensively in Europe like they do with Pele.

Same game. Bunch of people running around and occasionally kicking a ball toward a goal while we catch up with our reading.

And yet you felt it necessary to post on the soccer board.

You caught the gay.

I didn’t watch but why is good morning America saying she changed the game and brought a ton of energy once she came on

She did change the game and bring energy, just not for our team. Her addition gave us 2, old slow players on the pitch that can’t do much at all, giving Portugal a bigger edge.

The world catching up to us is only being amplified by the fact that we are in a massive transition period without enough top players to carry us through. You are seeing the old school USA athleticism in effect. Several of our players are demonstrating their lack of experience/readiness for this stage. Our bench/lack of subs is proof that there is not much there at this time although I do agree that our coach is looking a bit confused tactically on how to use what we have at this point. Unfortunately/fortunately, the young/inexperienced players are being thrown into a hot pan.
