Based on factors like fame, prestige, historical relevance, and just being impressive to look at, how would you rank them?
In alphabetical order:
Chichen Itza
Christ the Redeemer
Colosseum
Great Wall of China
Machu Picchu
Petra
Taj Mahal

I have been to two of these, Chichen Itza and the Colosseum.

I'm only at two as well.
Machu Picchu and Taj Mahal.
I think the Colosseum would objectively win a lot of those categories due to connection to ancient Rome and Italy still being a huge tourist destination.

Based on those 4 categories, I would put it in an overall order like this.
Colosseum 2 1 3 2
Petra 5 3 1 1
Machu Picchu 4 4 2 4
Taj Mahal 3 2 6 3
Great Wall 1 6 4 7
Chichen Itza 7 5 5 6
Christ the Redeemer 6 7 7 5
Colosseum 2 1 3 2
Petra 5 3 1 1
Machu Picchu 4 4 2 4
Taj Mahal 3 2 6 3
Great Wall 1 6 4 7
Chichen Itza 7 5 5 6
Christ the Redeemer 6 7 7 5

I went to Chichen Itza over 30 years ago. Back then they used to let you climb up to the top of the big pyramid which we did.

Same here. Do they not allow that anymore? Damn near killed my fat arse getting up there.

During tours of other Mayan ruins I have taken in recent years the guide told me that you couldn’t climb them anymore.

When I went to Chichen Itza about five years ago you could not climb El Castillo, the big pyramid.

I can speak to 3:
Taj Mahal
Petra
Colosseum
Shear beauty it’s hard to beat the Taj Mahal. The experience of arriving at Petra was my favorite part of the site. The approach through the canyons is very exciting. I think the colosseum is pound for pound the most incredible ancient site I’ve visited. There is no separate between you and this ancient civilization. You are walking through their superdome. A monument built for entertainment by a civilization so like our own.
My rank:
1. Colosseum
2. Taj Mahal
3. Petra

Petra is amazing. The age, structures, water systems, defensibility. Would love to have seen it during it's prime. Must have felt like NYC for generations of people.

Christ the Redeemer… seriously? What a lame wonder of the world.

The Cotton Bowl was built in 1930, the Colosseum was built 1941 years ago, they are in similar condition.
Are the Pyramids not a World Wonder? That would be #1 on my list.

The Great Pyramid is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The only one that still exists. The ones I mentioned are the seven wonders of the modern world.

Petra is amazing. I was a bit younger when I went and would like to go again now that I’m a bit older.
A site I think should be on this list is teotihuacan should be on this list. For my money that is as impressive and well preserved an archeological site as I’ve been visited.
And forgive my ignorance - but is the redeemer statue that impressive of a monument?

No offense, but according to whom?
And how are the pyramids ancient while Petra is "modern"? Petra is 2000 years old!

Or those that still exist in modern times, I should say instead. Not sure why the Giza Pyramids were not selected.

Visited Chichen Itza in 1982. Not only could you climb up the outside of the pyramid, but also go up an inside tunnel and see the jaguar throne. Could also climb in the stands of the ball court, losing team dies.

I went to Petra in March 2012, Machu Picchu vía Inca Trail in May 2015, hiked a secluded section of Great Wall in July 2016 (Did some research to ensure I went to a section that was totally deserted from Beijing), and Colosseum numerous times when I lived in Italy.
My number one is Petra because an entire city was carved out of sandstone cliffs and very elaborate. I know it wasn’t overall as ambitious as the great wall, but Petra is more bewitching to witness.
2. Is the Great Wall due to being so immense
3. Machu Picchu From the sun gate at the crack of dawn is also very memorable.
4. Taj Mahal (haven’t been, but it looks amazing as long as there’s no construction on it.) I was going to go to it from Nepal, but I saw a recent photos and it had hideous scaffolding on it so I skipped it at the time.
5. Chichén Itza, It’s a pretty standard looking pyramid, but the construction in accordance with celestial positioning activity is pretty insane for that time.
6. Colosseum, but I’m kind of biased because I saw it a bunch of times and I’ve also seen coliseums in several other countries.
7. Christ the Redeemer is a cool looking statue, but I think it’s mostly enhanced by the natural scenery it’s surrounded by.
