He has been absolutely fantastic these last couple of games on offense and defense. I was of the belief we had to trade him but if he continues playing like this Griff needs to give this man what he needs- an extension!

His defense has looked a lot better lately. Maybe it’s team defense helping him out but overall he has looked pretty good on that end. Offensively he’s always been strong.

He lost half a step last season. I don’t think he ever fully recovered from the beating he took in Eurobasket that summer.

Eurobasket wasn’t as bad for him this year and he looks like he got that half a step back.

JV had 3 or more blocks in a game 5 times last year.

JV has 3 or more blocks in 4 games already this year

Thats an insane stat. JV deserves a lot of credit but Nance injury also has forced Willie to stick with JV even more on defense. Maybe Nances injury has helped Willie see the light on how valuable JV can be especially this year.

Amen. I’ve loved watching Jonas up close this season so far. Guy has been incredibly efficient and dominant for stretches.

Jonas seems healthy, very confident in his stroke and his technique and size around the basket right now is awesome to see.

Hate to say it, but Nance taking over the 4th quarter of that play-in game vs the Clippers set Willie Green back a while..

Any time Larry was available, Willie would close the game with him, expecting a Clippers performance.. and I love Larry but the guy has noticeably lost some ability to move.

This year compared to last season looks like he turned back the clock several years. It's amazing.

He’s averaging 1.7 blks/gm highest of his career. Maybe he’s having a late career defensive turnaround. Brook Lopez wasn’t seen as a good defender until his 30s then was in the DPOY conversation.

I’m sure Dyson and Herb starting is helping him too. At the beginning of the game last night there was a sequence where Dyson took Fox, and Herb was just being Herb and guarding everyone else because he’s so active and high IQ.

Those 2 locking down the perimeter makes everyone else’s job on defense easier.

I haven’t noticed JV the last couple of games which probably means he’s been playing well. I love the guys intensity and work ethic. He’s a great teammate. If they can figure out a way to utilize him in today’s game, I’ve got no problem keeping him. He would be an absolute monster in the 90s.

Although he’s been blocking more shots, there’s multiple paths to be a decent defender and have an average defense. The most basic way is to limit easy points by grabbing defensive rebounds and not fouling. JV does these things and it makes him stand out on this team since clearly other people on this team don’t realize this.

Love the big guy. He’s not nimble and fast, but he presents a real problem to opponents. He cleans up a lot of missed shots and turns them into points.

I think we are recognizing when he has a mismatch and feeding him, and he’s attacking his man and punishing him. He’s put several centers in foul trouble already this year. His offense has always been just a hair below elite for a 5 individually.
He’s just so damn strong.

And I think his defense is better b/c of Dyson and Herb, and really you are finally seeing more activity from BI and Zion playing help defense. If you can force the ball carrier right into Jonas and they don’t have much room to operate and be athletic to get around him, then he’s a force to score over. That’s all Lopez has been. When a guy gets a free run to the basket, they are going to out athlete then and score. When they are forced to the rim with a defender hanging on them, then JVs frame and length are a big problem.

Just here to echo what others have said. It’s the overall team defense making everyone look better. Herb and Dyson control the game on that end and it makes every other players role more defined and achievable. I love JV. I love the whole team. I get the notion to run to the tax and get an all star lineup…but man…wouldn’t it be nice to get a ring with the guys who built it?

He’s 37th in offensive rebounds with 27 total. Jrue Holiday has more than him.

He’s 18th in total rebounds which I think is below average for a 7 foot big man.

I ain’t hating on JV but this mythology that he’s some board dominating big man is a little misplaced.

This year he's a bit down from the past, definitely

I'm glad you're on the JV bandwagon though because in the past, he was 2nd or 3rd in the entire NBA in rebounding %, and you'd constantly harp on how shitty he was at rebounding.
