Strat guy vs Les Paul guy. FIGHT!!!

Not really. No need to fight. I am also including LP “Style” guitars. As I own one (Agile) and there are others that are better. PRS for instance.
I find that I go with my Strat to play more than anything else. Feels better. Looks better. Plays smoother to me. I find it tougher to dial in an LP especially trying to play smooth.
Fight it out. Or simply discuss.

Full disclosure: I'm mostly a Strat guy
It is a matter of nuance. The "LP" sound (specifically a high mass guitar with a set-neck, fixed bridge and humbuckers) has no real substitute, only imitators. That is largely true of the chimey, single-coil sound of the classic Strat (although it is easier to do bolt-on necks and some configuration of pups to get close).
If you are a cover band playing Zeppelin, you're going to use a LP. If you're playing Pink Floyd, you're using a Strat.
A better question might be: Since the LP is not very flexible (LP is LP and cannot/would not do anything else), is the best option some sort of Super Strat, notably a HSS configuration that, while not a direct substitute, would get you about 85% of the way for playing a whole range of rock music (even 90s forward, but particularly pre-Nirvana)?

I've never really been a traditional strat guy (with single coils). I do have a Jackson super strat, but it's got humbuckers. That said, I got my first proper Gibson Les Paul not that long ago, and there's just something about it that cannot be matched in my opinion. The sound, the feel... it quickly became my number 1.

i have a handful of basses, but the two i play the most are my Fender Geddy Lee Jazz and my Rickenbacker 4001
its the same dynamic as the Strat / LP: the Geddy is easy to play and extremely versatile - but there’s no substitute for that distinctive trebly growl the Rick produces

Strat >>>>> LP
We all have our preferences, and I hate LPs and actually everything Gibson makes. They just all feel terrible and clunky to me. The best LPs are not even made by Gibson, they're made by ESP - such improvements.

I never bonded with Strats. They always felt like toys to me when playing them. Not knocking them, just never worked with me.
I can make 98% of the noise I want to make with Telecasters and Les Pauls.

Telecaster with a humbucker in the neck is best of all worlds

I adore and enjoy both and I couldn't go either/or if I tried because I'd about-face to the other platform within a week. Generally, I prefer the comfort of a S and the thicker tone of a LP.
Hence the reason my daily go-tos are compromises ... both have hidden coil splits in their tone knobs, and pickups I designed with convincing single coil tones as a key blueprint consideration before I wound them.

Never has a more correct opinion been posted in Tigerdroppings history.

Probably more so Jazz vs Precision. My #1 is an Ultra Jazz but I have two PJ basses I love to play. They are de facto P basses if I want them to be.
Definitely the two most distinctive and common bass tones. As well as Rickenbacker, you could throw the Stingray in there as well as another vs option.
On the guitars, I don’t play guitar, but I like the sound of them both. In a two guitar band (lead and rhythm) I think it’s best when there is a Strat and a Les Paul. The only question is which for which role?

If I clunk you over the head with a strat you'll probably be able to get back up. If I clunk you over the head with a LP it might kill you.
End of fight.

I would be hard pressed to find a more comfortable guitar to play, than my LP jr. kit guitar.
I changed out the p90 for splitable mini humbucker and that added to the guitar IMO, but it would be nice to have a little more versatility in that guitar.
I wish Stewmac would offer these kits again.
I would like to build one with a humbucker rout at the neck position to experiment with.

I'm rocking this Epiphone S-310 late 80's early 90's STRAT copy. Definitely an oddball..Made in Korea. Truss rod cover says Gibson. Best of both worlds! Added locking tuners.

I'm a Gibson LP/SG guy but the Strat in HSS is the best combination of quality and versatility you can get in a guitar IMO.

True, but the LP will be broken beyond repair.
Not only will the Strat still play after, it’ll probably still be in tune.

It would definitely crack the headstock.
