Over analyzing National Treasure

I love these movies. They are the epitome of fun and rewatchable with a little patriotism mixed in. I’ve seen this movie probably a few dozen times over the years since it came out.
Wife and I are watching tonight and it is a little funny in quite a few places.
First the movie starts off with the Gates family up until this point making ZERO progress on finding out where or what Charlotte is until they get to Nic Cages generation. Then, they find a massive 18th century ship relatively well preserved with mummified remains and all kinds of various artifacts. It’s also barely 6” below the surface of the snow which I imagine blows around a lot and definitely would’ve revealed it. Can’t imagine the permits they’d need to excavate this thing in the freaking arctic and being able to do it without tons of oversight. Treasure notwithstanding, this would be the find of a lifetime for any archeologist. The amount of info they can pull from this thing would be immense.
And of course they immediately blow it all to hell. Just sort of hilarious that that gets lost in the chase for a billion dollar treasure. Also sort of comical how he becomes rich just for finding it. As if he would have any ownership over it.
Again, I love this movie but it is funny to pick it apart.

I'd over analyze Diane Kruger

Finder's fee for a multi-billion dollar treasure would be sizeable.
Love both movies (first more than second). The fact that once they go after the Declaration it happens over a matter of days is mind-boggling.

Not much to worry about from Bean’s character who had another life and has “unlimited money” according to Gates

The most unsatisfying part of that movie is not getting an itemized list of everything that was found in the treasure room.
I don’t even need it to be shown in the movie, I’d be fine with an actual written list.

the sidekick guy was concerned with whether the pipe they found onboard was worth a million dollars. The finders fee of the Charlotte at the beginning would’ve been worth millions by itself that they blew up. Could’ve called it right then and there without having to go on a wild goose hunt and having to steal the declaration.

I like to think that the ending to The Rock was a prequel to National Treasure.

Why would he not own the treasure he found?
I get the movie’s reasons but it sounds like you are implying that if someone real time discovered that they would not have ownership

That stuff would be tied up in never ending lawsuits from countries all over the world. It would be as if he didn’t own it anyway

I’d cite the international law. Finders. Keepers.

Nic Cage was just that guy- 3 previous generations molded him for this specific mission

I certainly agree, but countries would be involved with trying to repatriate all these things and lawyers all of the place sounds like a nightmare.
Are we really getting into international law over a Nick Cage movie?!

That exchange between her and Cage when they are changing clothes in the dressing rooms. Very sexy.

I'd love a 3rd movie surrounding Jean Lafitte, Andrew Jackson, and King George III with New Orleans and the Gulf coast as the setting. There's so much mystery surrounding Lafitte and his lost treasure, and there is even Masonic ties.

Wasn't about money. It was about the Gates family vindication and the hunt for the big treasure.

It is an interesting debate when this happens.
There was a relatively recent dispute of a Spanish treasure ship valued at $17 billion that was discovered off the coast of Colombia. An American salvage company tried to claim it along with Colombia, Spain, and Bolivian Indigenous groups. It ultimately went to Colombia.

The forecasting was so strong, I was convinced a third installment was going to happen that would involve JFK assassination "stuff."
Still waiting.
