Women’s basketball observation

Poorly conditioned. Last 5 minutes of both games gassed. M Williams needs to shed a few. Kim alluded to conditioning yesterday also. The starters played so few minutes the first dozen games because of the blowouts. Hard to fix this mid season.

It is that bull shite out of conference schedule that has hurt us. If you play 15 games and your starters are sitting or playing at 50% the entire second half cuz you are up by 35+, it is bad preparation for 4th quarter minutes when the games matter. They aren’t prepared for second half basketball because they didn’t have to do it the entire out of conference schedule.

Exactly - They were quoting players before the Kentucky game how fresh they were because no player had played more than X amount of minutes.
Well, that's a double edged sward as you point out - when you play good teams you ain't playing 15 girls.
Lot's of reasons why that type of scheduling is risky.

Kim has gone back to her mo... 7 to 8 player rotation! Everyone else sits, which is totally different from the way she subbed in pre-conference play. This is a problem...

I don't think that's a problem in and of itself, I think 7-8 person rotation is fine. But when you have been playing totally differently the 14 games before that, then yes it's a transition and an adjustment - and you are seeing that.

I don't think the conditioning is an issue. That's not why they lost the game. I DO hope that Kim will use that depth that they talked about earlier, for the remainder of the season. Even if they don't want to play Bourrage and Yarnevich, I think Hines REALLY needs to see the floor..................................especially early in this SEC schedule.

In both losses they had the lead going into the last 5 minutes then poof, no legs, can’t get rebounds and if they do can’t put it back in. Outside shooting is ice cold. How can this be fixed-now.

The pathetic schedule leading up to SEC play is responsible for this lackluster performance. Players arent tested and locked in, poorly conditioned too.
You need games to keep the focus and intensity.
Very disappointed in this schedule and results in SEC play. Simply inexcusable.

I think it’s exactly what Mulkey said, it’s about toughness. Deciding you won’t be pushed around. Putting yourself in position so you don’t get knocked off your spot. Playing with more aggression and assertiveness.
The reality is, in these two games we saw Lay struggle against Kentucky and Flau’jae struggle against Vandy. As a team, we have to be better and we have to be tougher.
And we need Bella’s grit, the toughness she’s already proven she brings.
We’ll be fine overall, but I hope this puts pressure on the money team to give Kim more to work with. There are rosters right now that are easily valued at $5 million.( and still loosing..lol)

CKM has scheduled like this in OOC for yrs and it’s produced 4 Natties, she knows what her teams need to get ready for conf schedule, this team hasn’t shown mental or physical toughness in SEC play so far, too
many TOs and lack of toughness to keep other team off offensive boards are main issue, those are fixable with attitude and hustle

Did you research this or are you just repeating what had been said because I researched her great 2019 season and this was not the case.
She played several top twenty teams.

She does play in preseason tournaments with tougher opponents but other than that she uses OOC schedule like extra practices, that why this subject about her scheduling has become a hot topic, it’s not just this season

Go look at the Baylor 2018-2019 season when she only lost one game all season and won the NC.
Baylor played 11 OOC games. Sure some were cupcakes, but they also played 23 Arizona State, 18 South Carolina, 11 Stanford, and 1 U Conn. Her only loss was to Stanford at Stanford. She won at SC, and at home versus ASU and U Conn.
No tournaments

Many are just overlooking that the women’s game has grown and there are more quality teams and thus more parity. There are only two perennially elite programs: UConn and S Carolina. Everyone else is fighting for third and the number of those teams is getting larger.
We caught lightning in a bottle in 2023.

well, when you have to exert minimal effort to beat McIntosh St., a full 40 minute dog fight is uncharted territory

Girls looked like they were hung over. What I have problems with are the freakin missed layups and the lazy passes. I scream at the TV !

Glad Kim likes helping out SE U LA Tech, Tulane NO U etc because it’s helping inner state universities but apparently it’s not helping LSU.
