I believe this will also change dramatically as more P4 teams will narrow this focus to only the very best. Why recruit 30 high school kids when you can select 10-15, and then hit the portal for proven guys. Getting 30 from high school will only result in half or even less staying for the next year anyway, so don’t waste your time and money on training for the competition

Only pay for the HS kids you are confident that can play immediately. Otherwise they will take the bag and portal for a new bag next year.

It may very well end up with the smaller, less resourced schools in FCS and D-2 being farm clubs for the FBS. All the high school kids (except the elite) only having a shot at a small school the get bought out to a bigger school if they stand out.

Ffrench a perfect example. Got his one year deal, didn’t play and now onto the next spot.

I’d like to know what his deal was and how much he walked away with

Thats why teams like USC that sign 45 are looking to be in a world of hurt in a year or two. You aren't going to play 75% of them at all and they'll leave the next year.

I said this about the teams taking 40 signees this recruiting season. Why? Just a huge waste of resources, staff time, trainer time, 30 of em or gonna eat the food, get the swag, eat up time and head out.

A lot of HS kids will have to “prove it” at a G5 school or in a lower division

You mean out of those 30, 25 will be “processed”.

Pretty soon an 18 year old playing meaningful time in the SEC will be a unicorn

Big Schools are recruiting less HS players now and going the portal route. So the unsigned players wind up at smaller schools. The best ones then get recruited from the portal. Like the two RB’s we just got.

No doubt. Kid from my local high school would’ve been an SEC signee a few years ago. Would’ve probably developed and played as a jr/sr. A number of sec schools stayed in touch with him throughout the last year or 2 but no big school offers. Most only signed half or less of their usual number of high schoolers. He ended up signing at southeastern.

The finances are the catch. High school kids are much cheaper than proven college players so teams need to figure out the economics of it. If there’s an roi for portal guys, teams can scale that. If it nets out negativity (it will for the vast majority, right?) that’s trickier.

I agree. No need to recruit hard on high school kids who will leave and go in the portal in a year. They need to bring back the rule where they have to sit out a year when transferring.

Maybe maybe not. You are seeing contributors leave programs

That’s what college baseball has become.

All of what you see in these types of transactional relationships is possible only through the fraud of fiat script. It has enabled the scaling of everything especially the human population with attendant disastrous results. Entertainment sports such as football are nearly devoid of authenticity.

Is it gonna come to where all the big boys just go after a proven qb in the portal instead of grabbing a 5 star. If the 5 star is there you obviously grab him but do you have the money for a 5 star and a portal qb and everyone else you need to sign

Bc HS recruits are the only way you get depth. It's hard to convince guys to transfer to be the backup
