What’s your prediction for how this Iran situation ends?

Methinks we’ve seen this several times before in recent years and the protests are eventually subdued through force and / or whatever subdued the previous ones. I’d like to think this is revolution from within and will result in a secular, friendly Iran but I’ve been fooled before…

The revolution prevails and the Pahlavis return to power in some form

It's hard to say. Revolutions tend to happen when the leadership becomes at odds with the will of the people. When the military has finally seen enough, and steps aside or leads a coup, then real change can happen.

Regime falls. They've had many protests but not this scale it's only a matter of time.
I hope Trump steps up before more die

No idea. Need to see what Trump card is played.

This one just feels different for some reason, I think the regime will end up falling
Posted on 1/9/26 at 9:57 am to PenguinNinja
the only reason I think it could be different this time is because of how weak Iran is at the moment. Their economy is hanging on by a thread and their military posture has been severely weakened in the last couple of years.
How do they regain control of the situation? Force might be the only option and that invites US or Israel retaliation. I’m not sure I see a path back to normalcy for the regime.

You’re right, this is nothing we haven’t seen before in Iran and these aren’t even the biggest protests they’ve had in the last 10-15 years. The regime stays in power at the end of this.

Which seems to be one of the main drivers of the protests and discontent

Israel will somehow, some way-spectacularly deliver a plausibly deniable coup de grace without leaving their fingerprints causing Bunk Moreland to stroke out and I will lead a GoFundMe campaign for the $8700 it costs to get him the care and counseling he needs to reenter society.

Wrong. These aren’t bigger than protests they had in 2009, 2017, and 2022.

Tehran is running out of water so they have backs against the wall. I salute the Persians for standing up for freedom

Bunk hasn't been around since they went in and took out Maduro. Roger has disappeared too.

Doubtful that there will be a change to a secular govt friendly to the West…
Ironically the people are mostly friendly to the U.S. There were lots of Persians
and Armenians in L.A. when I lived there and they were very culturally Western…
