Should LSU (or the SEC as a whole) have an ice hockey team?

I’m aware there’s club teams but I mean actual NCAA ice hockey. Hockey as a whole has had huge growth in popularity recently. The FPHL, a single A minor professional league, already has teams in Monroe (the Moccasins) and Baton Rouge (the Zydeco). The Monroe team has been doing exceptionally well not just in performance but in attendance too in their first 2 seasons. The Baton Rouge team has seen much lower production in both categories this year but is still well loved by their fans. There has also been some talks of a third FPHL team in Alexandria but I haven’t seen any updates on that recently.
I’m not sure where the club team at LSU plays but there’s already a fairly nice rink at the Cane’s River Center in BR where the Zydeco play. I think it would definitely be interesting to see happen. I know a lot of LSU fans might be unsure about it due to being unfamiliar with the game, but I’ve yet to meet anyone who went to a hockey game and didn’t have a fantastic time.
Obviously this isn’t something that can just happen easily but I’m curious what y'all think. Would you be interested in attending or watching LSU hockey?

I think it'd be super awesome for LSU to get a team in the RCRC or the alleged future arena. Hockey is growing yes, but it just does not have the type of cultural foothold in the south (especially SEC country) to get a genuine D1 hockey conference going anytime soon.

Short answer: no.
That's a damn yankee sport.

Yes. replace Men's Basketball with Hockey. I am all for it.

I think LSU should take the money it spends on baseball and put it towards a new hockey program.

Big hockey fan and would be cool to see but probably not likely and not even possible til the new arena and even then we would need a practice facility. The river center is normally not a rink. The club team practices and plays home games in Lafayette. The zydeco also practice in Lafayette.

I would say no because they wouldn’t be competitive at all. Not near enough talent in the south for that.

I would love to see the fights with other SEC teams go on for minutes while the referees stand there and watch.

Have you heard of the Dallas Stars? Florida Panthers?

Definitely.
It's the only Big Four sport where we don't have multiple first overall picks.

Hockey has proven it can be successful in the south. Just look at the Florida teams in the NHL. Whether it can be successful at the college level may be debatable. I can tell you as a fan of the Colorado Avalanche, it is an exciting sport. I attended the ECHL finals in Lafayette on April 5, 1996 between the Louisiana Ice Gators and the Jacksonville Lizard Kings and the place was packed. The Cajundome was rocking and everyone had a great time, although the Ice Gators lost.
Ice hockey is fast and exciting, with nonstop action.

Could they not recruit cold weather kids to the south? Play hockey and not freeze when you leave the area?

I would have to agree.
I'm a southern man , born and raised, but we have minor league hockey here and it's far more popular than any other sport they have tried here.
It's fast pace with the occasional fight breaking out.
IMO , better than running up and down the court with orange ball and doing the occasional dunk or hanging on the rim.
Only downside of hockey is the low scoring.

How did they ruin the sport they invented?

I was saying this years ago. I played a lot of Hockey and Football in Texas and always thought LSU should have had a Hockey team instead of a basketball team. But it just doesn't have that same popularity that it does in the Northern part of the country to have LSU be a D1 Hockey team. They won't be able to compete for those players.
