Yep. Talking about THE greatest team ever, and they didn't even have their NC yet. Miami took them to the wire.
IU had a great team. Maybe in the top 10 of all time.
But to be the greatest ever, you have to crush the competition all the way to the end.

The whole argument is dumb and not provable (sure there are stats, I mean they can't play each other, etc). To me the fact that everyone keeps using LSU 2019 as the water line tells me all I need to know.

Why are LSU fans so obsessive about this topic? Last night’s game was barely over with players still on the field when the front page of this board was flooded with this same discussion. It’s silly & insecure.

Maybe we should have crushed 2019 Texas, 2019 Florida, and 2019 Auburn then.

None of these teams are as good as the teams pre transfer portal. The depth just isn't there anymore.

I think the undefeated 2001 Miami Fla team had an average margin of victory of 32-33 points. And as loaded as the 19 LSU roster was, they have nothing on that team. Reed, Portis, Andre Johnson, Wilfork, Shockey, McGahee, Sean Tayor ect...... All they were missing was a Burrows, but Dorsey was more than a solid college QB.

When they start talking lsu 2019 I think of the viral tik tok with Joey B throwing tuddys to the tune of the new Jason Alden song.

IMO, that 2019 LSU offense would have scored frequently on that Miami defense running a no hurry-up offense. LSU never substituted on offense and Miami defense would have been gassed. Imagine that Miami defense have to defend for 70-75 plays against that LSU offense.

That's not exactly a favorable argument for LSU. This Indiana team had a greater average margin of victory.

If not for a blocked punt and a missed FG this could be a different conversation so no they aren’t better than 2019 LSU. Offense only scored 20 pts.

If not for a lot of things Matt McMahon wouldn't be 15-44 vs. the SEC. But he is. And it wasn't like the FG was a chip shot. It was a 50 yard try...that IU forced. Plus, why shouldn't IU get credit for a great special teams play?

Regardless, I never argued that this IU team was better. I was simply pointing out the flaw in the poster's argument that "great teams crush their opponents all the way to the end" given LSU had a lower average margin of victory on the season. There are several arguments that favor LSU. That isn't really one of them.

Maybe top 25.

I don't see how you could watch 2013 FSU and put them behind this Indiana team, and 2013 FSU as a top 10 team is a stretch.

Top 10 means that 2025 Indiana would have to displace someone in this list.

2019 LSU
2008 Florida
2001 Miami
2020 Alabama*
1995 Nebraska
2005 USC
2005 Texas
1988 Notre Dame
2013 FSU
2018 Clemson

These are just teams I know about. Not even counting pre-1985 teams.

Maybe top 25.

the defense got healthy and off suspension. Follow the games that mattered. They did crush Texas. Yep gave up garbage at the end but they were learning how good they were then. Versus Auburn, they drove the ball to the goal line but they slowed down on that wet field. I was there on what that looked like PLUS Auburn had an all time dline that season.
They beat that Clemson pass defense that was highly ranked. Look at that roster today where they are including Trevor Lawrence.
What 2019 did from TAMU on when they got completely healthy on defense was nothing short of great.
Indiana couldn’t guard those receivers and Burrow with his ability to move the pocket and run where needed. Then they would have to do it against an OLine that still has starters in the NFL with Ed Ingram, Lloyd Cushenberry, etc. then on defense there were all pros like Stingley and players like Chassion, who is playing out of his mind right now in the pros, Fulton, delpit who got healthy for the playoffs that season, just stupid talent

They certainly did not. Texas had still had a chance well into the 4th quarter.

That’s not dominance or crushing by any stretch of the imagination.

It was 45-31 with under 2 minutes left in the game. I’m not sure if you math but…

exactly. 2019 LSU will never play 2025 Indiana.

These comparisons are an utter waste of time.

Both teams have NC trophies. Both had great years. Anything else is a waste of energy.
