Why Did We Agree to Send a Canadian Officer to the Moon on a U.S. Spaceship?

I personally believe politics should continue to be extricated from the science disciplines.
I’m also glad we hosted foreign countries, women, and the first Black astronaut to travel to the moon. I believe this is a legacy the original Apollo 11 astronauts would have been proud of.
However, this is the most historic space flight since Apollo 11. I just find it hard to believe Trump would have agreed to letting a Canadian fly to the moon on Artemis after the tariff wars. It seems disrespectful to those businesses who stood behind him when we rode the tariff waves. Just my opinion.

Is the same Canadian scheduled to go TO the moon ?
Posted on 4/11/26 at 5:14 pm to RFK
Trump is going to send them an invoice for 25% of the fuel.

Imagine tariffs or politics even entering your mind on this subject.

They didn't go to the moon. They went 4,070 miles close to the moon.

Which, with $4.50, will buy you a coffee at Starbucks.
Oh wait, it’s YOUR opinion. They’ll want $6.

I remember the days of Voyager, Discovery, Challenger, Endeavor...............................now we have "integrity"????
They should have told those bitches if they wanted that name to gtfo off the program stat.
What a shameful display. I got your "integrity" Americans, and male Americans who can pass a real physical and IQ test for a qualified astronaut.
"integrity" my arse.

What do you mean "continue to be extricated from the science disciplines"?

Canadian Space Agency, just like the European Space Agency were contributors in components and r&d vis a vis Artemis

Answer to my own question - no.
But also...
Jeremy Hansen, the Canadian astronaut on the Artemis II mission, is currently not confirmed for any future Artemis missions. However, Canada is playing an essential role in the Artemis program, and more Canadian astronauts are expected to participate in upcoming missions

The first person of color, the first woman, and the first person from the 51st state of Canada all flew around the moon on this mission lol!! How historic
.
All kidding aside. NASA not only gave the first non American a ride around the moon. The European Space Agency built part of the capsule. I think they have more cooperation planned in more moon missions in the very near future.
Me personally I really do not like it. This mission was long scheduled before the current situation with Europe had happened. From this point going forward though we should seriously limit any cooperation with Europe and Canada as much as we possibly can. If we can’t depend on these people to do something as basic as support the the United States and back us up during a war against an evil regime that has murdered many people from the United States over the years. Then we shouldn’t allow these people to share in the good times when the United States achieves something great like going to the moon.

We wanted to see if the top half of his flapping head would float off in zero gravity

That's one of the oddest melts I've seen in a long time.

The Canadian did the math and realized the cutting edge medical exam he’d get at splashdown would only require getting an advanced degree in aeronautics, a long military stint, and astronaut training. The waiting list to see a primary care physician in Canada would have been twice as long.

Don't we still cooperate with Russia for space missions that have to do with the ISS?

Dear brave keyboard warrior (aka trinidadtiger), all four crew members had outstanding resumes.

I’m hoping that Elon is working with future administrations to fly you, and people like you, directly at the sun, so we can advance as a society.
