Is this still happening or is it dead?

It will get done eventually. Apparently Jay Monahan has been working a lot with PIF & was most recently in Saudi Arabia to attend the Future Investment Initiative conference run by PIF.

Rory said something about Trump being president will help get the deal done too. Not sure exactly what Trump has to do with a deal being reached but he did mention that in a recent press conference

Saw Rory’s comments and found that interesting. Not sure how trump will help, but I’m in favor of whatever gets us one tour again.

Not sure that’s anyone’s goal at this point. Not sure what the long term solution is, but ideally seeing the best golfers playing against each other more than 4 times/year
I think Rory’s comments about Trump stem from something Trump said recently

I'd like to see all the players at least occasionally playing regular events again. I have zero interest in watching current tour guys playing the LIV format tho.

Generally speaking, a Trump DOJ will be more favorable with regard to the antitrust aspect than the current DOJ. Curious how it will play out since Trump courses have hosted a number of LIV events.

If tweet fails to load, click here. The DOJ/FTC couldn't block the DLP/LIV merger.

DP World Tour should have merged with LIV from the start. Pelley really screwed that one up. Guys like Cam Smith, Bryson, and Rahm would be playing a few of their events each year. Not to mention the guys on the Neiman tier who need the world ranking points.
Instead they got a "strategic alliance" where they lose their top 10 players every year to the PGA Tour and in return a few guys ranked 100-125 in the FedEx Cup have the option of going over there.

I don't think there is any rush on either side. As long as the LIV players are under long term contracts, any merger talk is moot anyway. I'd guess it will be at least another 2-3 years at the earliest. Right now, neither side really needs the other's players to work. Ratings are down across the board, but LIV has a bottomless pit of cash and the PGA just got an influx of cash, so the status quo seems to be the rule of the day for now.
