Cig also didn’t do it first year in SEC, not apples to apples.

It’s silly to expect anything that’s been done at Indiana to be replicated anywhere else in the immediate future without loads of cash being involved. The top of the B1G was just as good as the SEC (even better i’d say while discounting what the bottom half of each conference was) this year and Ole Miss is a far better job than Indiana pre Cig. Lane is a great coach and probably top 10 with some recency bias but to expect us to legitimately compete with a roster full of cheap transfers is laughable.

espn story on how texas tech built defensive line

I get spending money on pass rushers. I just don't think you pay 3 mil for Wilson with all the other holes on this roster.

It would have been insanely better to get Longstreet and pay the big money for Wilson and OT Seaton. I will say this every single time. FOUR redshirt freshman QBs finished in the top 7 of QB ratings.

If yo were half as good as you think you are, you’d be getting paid Glasscock money to do this for a living. Your smugness shows you have no people (fundraising) skills thus this is your only outlet.

All the money we have left needs to go to the o-line.

No one we had was even close to that. Worth the money imo

Alternative theory - had our offense been able to exceed Jordan Jefferson level statistics, we would've won more... therefore, making it less pivotal to have an elite athlete on defense.

Indiana had 20 extra scholarships so they have more depth with 20 extra portal players

This 100%!! No matter what anyone says about having an elite to great defense even in todays pass happy offenses. Even with the league taking away defense from a rule standpoint!
Defense wins championships and offense wins games! Period
Look at the last two teams standing, they both play elite defense.

We just gave 6.5 mill to a QB coming off a lisfranc injury

I believe you are a bit heavy on that number

Sacks get you paid for sure, doesn’t always tell the full story.

THIS^^^^^^^

Agreed. You can be a great edge rusher and get the sacks but if you can't stop the run in the SEC, they will eat on your side of the line. At that point you are not the aggressor the OL is and you have to be able to get off the block, seal the edge, or plug gap.

With the players we have taken I can see LSU not paying the $ for him. We still need OL.

Dawg, 3 Mil is more than a decent amount of NFL lineman make.

Yes, this is because there are salary caps in the NFL and a union.

Bakers defense generates pressure in plenty of ways. Paying that much for a pass rusher is over the top.
I don’t disagree. But creating a pass rush w 4 is almost unbeatable

Just look Texans last night. It was a murder scene.

Wilson might need the extra dough bc of the lawsuit Georgia filed against him for breaking their contract and transferring to Mizzou. UGA wants money back. It's a similar situation to what Desmond Williams might have faced with UW had he enrolled at LSU.

I'm curious how the courts will rule. Could mean even more unbridled player movement... or that colleges can discourage transferring via lawsuits/damages/buyouts & maintain a hint of control control over their roster

I also think there’s a distinction between guys with proven production who hit the portal vs these guys who are clearly just looking for the biggest bag. Coleman, Heard, Wilson, this OT from Colorado for example. Seems we’re less likely to make a hard push for those guys who immediately list Texas, Oregon and TT for example.

QB would be the exception but even that market will be so different year to year.

You people do realize Jordyn Ross is rated higher than Bailey was on On3, correct?

He’s a top 20 player in the portal.

ETA: Bailey was rated higher as a teansfer. Don’t forget that LSU is returning more talent than Texas Tech was. Do lm McKinley and Gabe Reliford are better than anyone they had. LSU also isn’t done recruiting linemen.

year 6 vs year 2…Lane was absolutely the right man for the job but we don’t have to be massive homers.
This board won’t like this, but you’re correct. Lane did well at OM, but what Cignetti did and is doing is generational.
