On3 reported that Lance Heard is officially in the portal this morning. Was his issue with our previous coaching staff and not necessarily any ill-feelings towards LSU as a program? And if so, do we pursue that route to return at a position of need? What is everyone's feelings on it?

He wanted to be the left tackle but wasn’t going to do that with Will Campbell here.

He thought he was better than Will Campbell and wanted to play left tackle.

So he left

People are saying he's asking for an ungodly amount. I have no clue what that amount is, but if we're not making a run at proven starters, we probably should be trying to get some of our guys back out of the portal. With better coaching, they can't get any worse.

Sounds like we aren’t going after him

So what would the general opinion on him coming back be, now that we have no draft picks at the position anymore? And would it even be worth exploring him as an option?

He likely won't be coming here. He wants a giant bag of money

He just wanted to play LT.

It didn't matter if he was the best or not. The opportunity and financial impact of playing LT is what was most important to him...and really at this point it's hard to disagree with the decision.

If his asking price was reasonable then sure, he is a good player. I dont think he is good enough to be commanding what his rumored price is though.

He wanted too much money to stay and more guaranteed playing time he wasnt going to get with Campbell and Jones still here.

He made the right move for himself and it wasnt a coaching issue on our end in this case (not that I'll ever take up for Brad Davis, but in this case, what else is he supposed to do?)

Just bad timing we had him and he wasnt willing to wait a 2nd year to get real playing time at T behind Campbell and Jones. A lot of people including me thought just move Jones to guard and play him at RT but that wouldnt have worked out honestly if Jones wasn't ok with that and he sucked his first year at TN. Like Weston Davis levels of bad.

I would imagine his price is pretty high but we have to be willing to pay to get a really good LT in here as well. He improved a lot from his first to 2nd year at TN I'm wondering why he just isnt in the draft after 2 years starting at LT now in the SEC. I would imagine it would take a pretty big pay day to keep him from NFL.

Agreed. He could definitely be a good option to explore IF the numbers make sense. But if he's commanding a ridiculous number like everyone is saying, we have 5ish other OL guys we need. Can't spend it all on one.

Most schools are not interested including LSU. He thinks he's better than he is and should be paid way above LT market value. Someone will be dumb enough to give it to him.

He's arguably the 2nd best LT available in the portal behind the NC St guy. I would see what their 2 prices are and go after who is more reasonable personally. Maybe they are both asking sky high though.

We've seen above average to decent players ask for 7 figures before in the portal when teams get desperate enough like last couple years spring window.

I can promise you he will want to be starting LT, and I am not sure that’s what we have in mind. But i would keep him on the list. Forget about the 5 star rating, if he were that he would be NFL bound instead of in the portal.

I honestly wouldn't tie up $3 million in him, but I don't call the shots.

Pick a price we feel comfortable with and if he wants to come back he can. If he wants to demand more, good luck at your next destination.
