Those are the kind of numbers an LSU team with a decent offense could dominate with. But Kelly could never figure out how to have both a good D and O. It was ALWAYS one or the other. Or neither.

I don't hate Baker, but I do think it is fair to say that he has a glaring deficiency in slowing down and containing mobile quarterbacks. As mobile QB's are increasing in number, Baker should spend the summer shadowing a DC who can slow/contain a mobile QB, and to the extent this is allowed or possible, copy the plays that man uses against the Diego Pava's of the world.

The real issue is, if we are going to be shelling out a huge amount for anew HC and OC, why would we want to pay even more for a DC. Given the D has not looked great the last few big games, not bad but just not great I don't think we should or can afford to replace him this year.

DE's had zero pass rush all year.

Given this, why not cage rush and at least control the QB run?

Just for comparison’s sake, our 2019 defense who many say was average or not very good:

National ranking

Total defense: 31
Pass defense: 59
Rush defense: 21
Scoring defense: 31
3rd down: 6
Sacks: 20
Turnovers forced: 15
TFL: 23
INTs: 5
Redzone: 26

The defense held two of the three best offenses we will play to their seasons low in points. Injuries and bad offense took their toll.

Baker did a fair job, given the talent on the defense.

However, you have to wonder if Kelly still has a job if Baker had figured out Ole Miss & Vandy on 3rd / 4th down.

Ole Miss: 8-16 on 3rd Down , 2-2 on 4th downs

Vandy: 6-13 on 3rd down, 2-3 on 4th dowwns

Agree about weak front 7. Biggest disappointment for me has been Payton from Fla St. Got nowhere on four man rush from outside. Pyburn did decent.

Can you imagine what those numbers would be if our team match Time of Possession of the other team each game. You can half all of those numbers.

Basically if we don’t have the worst Oline ever and have an offense with a pulse we are 10-1 with our only loss being against A&M and we still might win that game with the crowd staying and our defense having a reason to keep fighting in the 2nd half so we’re 10-1 at worst, possibly we’re 11-1. Cool.

Without Whit, West and Keys are very average. Secondary has been amazing.

My one nitpick with baker is the stud freshmen lb’s weren’t given a bigger look when keys was struggling. Ross and braiker have tremendous athleticism
