I think he looks like Les a bit with the thin hair, the scowls from the sideline. The overall quirkiness gets thrown in and I can’t help but think of Les Miles.

Nope. He is much more disciplined and so are his teams.

He’s quirky but that’s where the comparison stops. Cignetti runs rings around LM as far as coaching goes. The man’s a miracle worker for what he’s done at Indiana.

What Cignetti has accomplished, even without a National Title, is amazing.

To do this at Indiana is unreal. It's not like they had some great history like Miami, Neb, Penn State that can attract players to these historic prominent schools....it is freaking Indiana. He attracted enough talent and built a team that is "a team". In the interviews of players, they usually go back to the summer camp when things came together. that is coaching.

I really like Cignetti. I'm pulling for them to win it all. The 1st round bye teams are1-7 with Indiana being the "1". That is significant.

Some of you are miserable, Les literally led LSU for 11 straight seasons of being a top 10 team in CFB. He needed to go at the end but damn, it doesn't neglect what he actually accomplished as the LSU coach.

I’m not saying they coach the same but I agree with the op. I told 2 people yesterday that he reminded me of Les. Just his look and odd personality. There’s definitely something there that reminds me of Les.

He reminds me of prime Nick Saban. Here at LSU and the first couple championships at Alabama. Hungry and never satisfied. Laser focused.

The only thing that's really different is he's more outwardly proud of his contemporary accomplishments and will talk $#!+ too. Saban bottled that up as part of the rat poison mindset.

Les never talked $#!+ and never really was process oriented. Just loved being goofy and was an incredible motivator and a good leader. Not so great at Xs ans Os and didn't know how to modernize once Briles etc came into cfb.

Maybe. Cignetti has quite a ways to go to even match the accomplishments of Les Miles.

He honestly has accomplished something much harder considering where he is with going to what was the most losing program in all of Division I and making two consecutive playoff appearances in his first two years, having an undefeated regular season, beating the defending national champs to win the Big 10 and humiliating Bama 38-3 to move on to the semifinals. Les did a very good job, but he did it at LSU - a place with a loaded roster that had just won a NC two years before he arrived

If the Hoosier dominance continues to a natty, the 2025 Indiana team will be another "one for the ages".

I mean, they were 3-9 the year before he came and were dead last in the Big 10 and their history in football is in line with Vandy but even a worse success rate, no coach has ever had even fleeting success there.

I mean success there would have been going 7-5 and 8-4 the last two years, not beating Oregon on the road, Ohio State at a neutral site and curb stomping Bama in your second season.

Even for the Nil era this is unbelievable - not like he has a bunch of 5 stars.

Coaches around the country are pissed at him for setting a standard most of them if any can match. Hell, we have folks on this board rationalizing for Kiffin to go 8-4 or worse next year.

Cignetti has won at each level . This is the most impressive start of any college coach in at least 3 decades at a school that has been awful for a generation. In addition they bitch slapped our most hated rival … just celebrate that if you can’t appreciate the rest.

i could see Cignetti having the same results at lsu

I feel like, in many ways, Dinardo was a better coach than Les.

Dinardo fell on his face at Indiana.

And he was a horrible 2000's coach that won on talent, trying to play a 1970's game

Maybe it Les had taken Kansas to the final four. Then there would be grounds for that comparison.

So Far, Cignetti has not been reported to forcing relations with female hired help.

I think Cignetti could be a mafia hit man if needed...His thought process seems like he might be a special agent..
