He truly is solely obsessed w baseball. Not having kids and an understanding wife frees him up to be the master robot as was Saban. Glad he’s here.

I could listen to Jay talk all day. Dude has a love for the game and is his guys ultimate hype man.

CJJ 's Arizona CWS team came within one out of winning that NC. That would have given him 3 NC's out of his last 4 CWS's appearances. Pretty close to being the GOAT definitively.

this was the only negative about college baseball for me. Kids going straight to minor league ball instead of coming to college baseball. Now we get to have them play for the greatest baseball program.

I didn't think I could love Jay Johnsan any more. Yet here we are.

Dude, there is no point in this. Learn to compartmentalize and enjoy the good without bringing everyone down by pulling in the bad.

"Whats more important with both of these guys(gestures at Schmidt and Curiel) is to say 'Im going to college'. Because plenty of these guys that you never hear of, they take the 2 million bucks and nobody ever hears of them again. With these guys, they are now 2 of the premier players in college baseball at the best program in college baseball. And they're going to have long careers after LSU because of how well they are developing here. and also becoming even better people than they are players. and i'm honored to coach them while I can."
We are damn lucky to have CJJ leading our program.

I know money is money but I can't imagine not experiencing what college baseball at a high level program is like and thinking you made the right decision.

Yes, but they will have at least been able to experience being a college student, playing college ball, and being treated like celebs for a bit as opposed to going straight to A ball and never being heard of again.

A ball won’t exist in 3 years. College baseball will take its place 100% and that is MLB’s intent. They’re wasting too much $ on kids that never develop enough that should have gone to college. That’s why the draft dropped to 15 rounds and will be only 10 rounds soon. Once it goes to 10 rounds A ball will go away.

You seem awfully sure of something that has to be collectively bargained.

You simply can't get a better coach/man than Jay Johnson. He understands baseball, but he also understands life and keeps things in their proper perspective.
Kind of a random thought, but I bet that Jay and Lane Kiffin will become pretty good friends. Different personalities, but they both are genuine people who keep it real.

He's not taking it easy after winning the National championship?

CJJ has really figured out this chaotic world of college sports. It’s incredible.

Honestly, it couldn’t be said better than that. I’m glad Jay is our coach.

Jay never gives an interviewer a one line answer. He always gives more than expected an the interviewer leaves more informed than before the interview. I always look forward to his interviews after games. As far as baseball, I could listen to Jay all day talk about baseball and the previous game.

Nearly every single player that plays college baseball (even big time college baseball) and goes pro, will still play in A ball.
MLB has started drafting more college kids in the first round the last 5-10 years...i think they are putting more value on the fact they have been competing above AA ball and in the summer leagues. I would like to know the success rate of first round college players vs high school of making the majors.

They haven't been competing above AA ball.
SEC players, by and large, are still being sent to Low A or High A to begin their pro career. And playing in the SEC is not above playing in AA. There may be particular innings or particular matchups that are like that, but it's few and far between.

What will happen to the 100s of foreign players? What will happen to players that don’t want to go to school?

The person who downvoted you is clueless. Tre Morgan, a National Championship Star at the best baseball program in America, and the highest rated prospect in the Tampa Bay Organization, when he was drafted, started off in A Ball.
Absolutely
But they are spending less time there.
