No chance youre stealing in that situation yesterday. The pitcher came in, threw 10 pitches and walked two batters. He was rattled badly, and then he knew he had to pitch to Beloso. Beloso was sitting dead red.

CPM is in the College Baseball HOF, put there by his peers. Point being, he knows what he is doing. What does your baseball resume say about your baseball knowledge beyond second guessing? A freshman hits a 3 run walk off HR and you bitch. Good Lord.

You hate to give away an out when you are down 2 runs in the 9th. There are 7 different ways that the runners can advance both runners without intentionally sacrificing the out and 5 of those ways still leave you with all 3 outs. Playing for one run in that situation is a different matter.

Bunting is almost always a bad decision when trying to win baseball games in college/professional baseball. This isn’t 12 year old travel ball where it’s 50/50 if the defense even gets an out when you bunt.

was he supposed to recruit him to bunt?

I know several scouts and I’ve been told we recruit guys to hit the ball hard and preferably to do so in spots where there are no fielders.

I agree and I would not have stolen at that point either I was just giving a hypothetical that bunting is only an option when you are certain that the hitter at the plate is going to strike out if you let him swing

.....hey, Beloso hit a homerun and won the game in the bottom of the ninth. Pure bliss. Great effort and win by my Tigahs. Let's just enjoy the moment.
I love LSU Baseball.

Rhymes was batting over .500 deep into the season. Let him hit in that spot. Settle down nancy. Enjoy 2-0 and the ride. Its going to be fun this year.

This is a real thread you started COMPLAINING that a kid hit a WALK OFF HOMERUN instead of attempting a SACRIFICE BUNT.
Are you freaking kidding me with this?!?!?!? My god man get a grip

Also I don’t have the data but I bet your argument isn’t even valid. I bet there is a higher % chance to score twice in college baseball with runners on 1/2 with no outs than on 2/3 and 1 out, and that’s assuming he executes the sacrifice.
But let’s bring it back to where you are questioning a decision that resulted in a WALK OFF HOMERUN
Skip should have pinch hit for Warren Morris in 1996 right?

Pretty much every study every done on this says bunting reduces the expected value of run scoring. These studies are usually done on MLB data, but considering college baseball has a higher run environment, I’d think bunting there is even worse.

For those who enjoy statistics, this is a fun site to play around with: MLB Win/Run Expectancy.
Though the numbers are based on MLB statistics, the conclusions should be close. Down 2 with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs in the bottom of the 9th, the home team's probability of winning the game is right at 30%. Assuming a successful sacrifice leaving runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, the probability of winning drops to a little less than 28%. Even a successful sacrifice leaves the team worse off, and of course there's a decent chance that the sacrifice would fail. All of the numbers assume an average pitcher facing an average hitter.
Given all of this, it looks like PM's decision not to sacrifice was the correct one regardless of the outcome. At least it definitely wasn't a bad call.

I'm all for bunting and love small ball, but it's situational. Down 2 runs is not the ideal time to sacrifice 1 of your 3 remaining outs. If we were tied or down 1 with someone who actually bunts at the plate, then yes that would be the smart move.

think every player on that team needs to be able to bunt if needed. If you are playing percentages

I have no idea what you’re talking about because you make no sense. You went from talking about Beloso to Raph Rhymes bunting.
Raph Rhymes batted .430 and was nearing the single season hits record and you bitch about him not bunting?
Also, what does that have to do with the 2nd game of the year against Army? Completely comparable situations, for sure.
