Use Shores and Evans as needed to secure the win. For game 3, use Coleman and the best arms left and if it gets to Game 4, Kade will be on the mound.

when has he been on? You can't risk it here with Cowan IMO. I get having a short leash....but damage can be done with only 2 or 3 batters.

The last game he was "on" was May 9th - Game 1 of the home Arkansas series.

I agree we can't risk it with the way Cowan has been. I'd go Cooper Williams first, but have Shores ready to go.

We still need 4-5 more runs to win this, at least Cowan avoids free passes.

For the season, yes. Over his last 6 innings, he's allowed 5 walks and 3 hit batters. Now he hasn't pitched in over 2 weeks so who knows how he would perform today, but he makes me very nervous.

I think you go out of the gate with either Williams or Shores, and have noot on standby. Hopefully one of williams or shores can give us multiple innings, if not both, and we extend the lead.

I like that. And have Evans ready if things get out of hand. If we’re down by two, with three innings to go, I’d rather burn Evans trying to win this game then save him for three game climb out of the losers bracket.

Sounds like a good reset.

Cowan should be the move with a 2 run lead. He can't lose you the game in that spot, but if he pitches well, he could take LSU to the end and you could still be set up with Evans or Eyanson next game.

There are a number of guys Jay can throw out there and see pretty quickly if they’re going to have a good outing or not. It’s a question of the probability that they’re on that day and their ability to go multiple innings.

Evans is obviously tops in both categories, but if we can save him at all, we should. Shores has shown good consistency and length. Noot can give you a few innings, Williams I think of as less length but pretty consistent lately.

Even Rizy and Mayers have shown decent consistency (compared to other options), and I feel like you can see what you’re getting with them almost right away, up until their first walk.

Cowan is the least consistent right now but he can give you length. He could be given a shot when we have a little more of a lead. After seeing Jones go yard last night, it would be cool to have another redemption arc.

I’d go shores, Williams, Rizzy.

All on a silly short leash. Any sign of trouble, Evans

Root isn't throwing tomorrow night. He'll probably throw Wednesday if they advanced. Most he can do for them is close that game out if they need him but I don't think they want to use him.

Root will play tonight if LSU loses. I think regardless they save Root for LSU.

Are you retarded? Hell no Jay doesn't trust him anymore.

Roll with Williams and Shores and hope we extend the lead

against arkansas in the series we had with them he was good.

its not just teams figuring him out, all you have to do is go back and watch his last few games and you will see that he was getting hit because he was leaving his changeup, up.
he was also missing his spots with the fastball. look at where the catcher sets up and you will see that the ball wasn't getting to that spot.the catcher was having to slide over or reach across his body to catch the ball ,if it wasn't hit .

also he could be better in this big park, he gave up a Homer recently to lose the gamee for us that wouldn't have been out of Charles Schaub

Agree it has to be Cowan and trust our lineup and positioning to make out when they barrel him hard. If we dont get to 8 runs it won’t matter anyway.

Williams is the better answer. Keep Evans for next game.

The average outing for Williams this season is 16 pitches.

Over his last 4, when his usage has been at a season high, it is still only 31 pitches per outing on average.

he would be better suited as a piggyback off of Evans or Cowan to finish the game or get a lefty out late in the game.

I think we have less of a luxury of falling into the losers bracket. If we win, we only need to worry about winning the next game, and then we could reset the rotation for the finals. If you win this game and lose Wednesday, you go back to Anderson on 4 days rest, Thursday, just like we did with Skenes two years ago. It's not ideal, but this is the situation we are in now, and it is imperative not to lose this game. So, I'd love to save Evans, but we can't afford to screw around trying to hold him out.

When you say “only need to worry about next game” you haven’t offered a plan that wouldn’t have Evans.

We’ve got a 2 run lead. I think taking a stand without Evans right now, with the option of changing course if you need to is the best decision. We should give our staff a chance to see if they can get outs and/or our lineup a chance to see if they can continue to put up runs.

Why do I need to offer you a plan? Isn't it rather obvious that the guys you were wanting to pitch today instead of Evans, would be the guys who you go with in the next game? Because, whether it was this game, or the next game, you were going to have to win a game without Evans, and that is thanks to the rain delay, which no one can control. With that in mind, it made more sense, in my opinion ( and in that of Jay Johnson, apparently), to go with Evans in this game where we already had a lead to protect. Now, it's up to the others to get through tomorrow. This was unavoidable, and I don't see the reason for argument over it.
