Was John Brady fired too soon?

I know the 2006-2007 year was not going the way we wanted after the 2006 final four year, but do you think he was fired too soon during the season?

He went 17-15 with a preseason top 10 team and then started the next season 8-13 when he was fired

Taz wasa lost for the seasaon in the secon game and Chris Johnson had some inuries . They had Anthony Randolph, Garret and Marcus Thornton and had potential without the injuries. The next year with a healthy group Trent won the SEC regular season. Bo knows.

Brady never had depth and inconsistent feast or famine results.. Only one coach in the last 30 years has had consistent success …. Hmmmm.

He was lazy. Spent too much time at the strip clubs. And Collis Temple brought in most of the talent. He began the demise of LSU basketball.

Brady was a good coach. He benefited from some good Louisiana talent while he was here. His problem was twofold. He never had much depth and they would tire down the stretch. Secondly, he was a screamer and yeller who would upset his players. I remember my friend complaining about his fussin and cussing on the sidelines. That didn’t endear him to many players or fans. But he could definitely coach!

The frustration with Brady was driving away recruits and some of the people who wanted those recruits here. He was an abrasive guy back then and it had been building up since very early in his tenure.

All I know is I he had the hottest two wives in LSU coaching history. Legend

No. He regressed terribly and his teams were painful to watch. It was an only slightly better version of Trent Johnson.

John Bradynshould not have been fired. Skip really did not like him. Anyway.

He went to the Final Four, then with three starters from that team back (Davis, Temple and Tasmin) plus Darnel Lazare finished last in the SEC West. He was on pace to do it again the following year when Skip pulled the plug that was long overdue. The only thing Brady was great at was being able to pull a good season when he was on the hot seat...only to immediately suck right after.
The fact that Brady is considered a "great" coach shows just how far the expectations for this program have fallen. He wasn't fired too early. His Final Four run basically delayed the inevitable and he didn't have a ton of friends in the AD when he immediately tried to leverage the run into a bigger pay day. In one of the great AD moves Skip told Brady that if NC State was going to pay him $2M per year that he should take it. Spoiler alert, NC State wasn't and Brady got pissed Skip called his bluff

That was part of the fun IMO. Wade got guard talent, but Brady had some monsters.
Swift, Bass, Thomas, Davis. Completely dominant collegiate post players. Thornton and Darrel Mitchell were his best guards, scary to think what he might’ve done with a Waters or Smart.
Mitchell played out of his mind in that tournament though. I vaguely remember him doing something dumb like 3 pt, steal, 3pt and-one within a very short amount of time to keep that final four run alive. Can’t recall the opponent.
He wasn’t on anyone’s radar living in Tyrus’ shadow most of the season, but he was arguably MVP that March. Wound up in the NBA in the end.
One of my favorite basketball tigers ever.

That is some revisionist history. Brady didn’t just pull the final 4 year out of nowhere.
2000-sweet 16
2002 -nit
2003-ncaa tournament 1st round
2004 nit (was on pace to be around a 3-4 seed and best player got hurt)
2005 ncaa tournament 1st round
2006-final 4
Things were off the tracks the last 2 years but you can make a real argument he was fired too quick. He probably does as good or better than Trent in 2009. That was his team. While he was just slightly less consistent than Wade I’d have a hard time not saying Brady had the 2nd best tenure behind Dale. The truth is he and Wade both should have coached longer.

This can’t be true. Only McLoser has to deal with injuries

Well he’s damn good on the radio He’s probably settled down some and would be a better coach in his older days.

We certainly have done much worse in the meantime.

Brady was a very average to above average coach, lucked into a ridiculous amount of local talent we scored for that F4 run season. Made the tourney a few other times but never consistently.
Keep in mind he spent 8 years at Ark St after here (showing no one really wanted him after we fired him) and never made the tournament once there.
Take someone like Wade who went to McNeese St after here and made the tournament both years there doubling their all time appearances and having their only tourney win all time. Now he's at an ACC school soon after.

And he couldn't figure out how to pay players to where it wouldn't hit his personal finances.
