so I'm looking forward to embracing a life of material minimalism.

I'm selling my big-ish house in the city and either moving to my lake condo, a small piece of land with a tiny home, or doing like my brother does and living in a RV full-time. There's a beautiful RV resort near Tyler, TX that's $695/month for EVERYTHING, including electricity and internet. Two pools, lazy river, swim-up bar, bar and grill, arcade, and store.

In about 6 months get nervous about if you have enough to live comfortably on in retirement and go back to work only to find out 3 weeks into it, yea, you're sick of that shite and retire again and feel confident you can make it and enjoy your retirement.

Give us some stats and monthly updates.
How much saved on xyz and how much you spent that month.

Yep what's a work day, holiday and weekend? I sometimes lose track of the day of the week.

Congrats. Some great ideas. Just figure out a way not to get bored.
Any pictures of the wife?

If you don't mind me asking, what age did you pull the cord?
I've gotten into range age and financially where I can start considering retirement. I've done financial models and all and have a concept in mind, but have to be honest in makes me very anxious thinking about actually doing it.
I grew up always worried about money and have a lot of poor relatives, the fear of returning to that financial place looms large in my mind.

My wife got mad at me for having sex with her while she was asleep...
Was I wrong?
Too be fair, she was awake when we started...

Just turned 55.
Know the feeling. We started investing in a meaningful way 30yrs ago. Worked for great company. Kept on keeping on in the dark times, as well (dot com bubble burst, credit swap/mortgage fraud 2008-10, Covid).
Portfolio was ready a few years ago (blessed that way), but I was not (mentally). A few things in 2025 reminded me how precious is time (heath are near all time highs, may God be willing that continues). More about elderly family. Meanwhile, same great company grew complex and turned time into dust. I cannot recall Q225 for example.
Time is the most precious thing. And Company turned it to dust. Horizon said much more of that ahead. So, Boom! Not for me. Eject cord pulled.
Here is how I look at it. Compounding interest is 8th wonder of world. Portfolio increased at increasing rate across my 30 yrs. Would have continued (over time). However, age and mobility/health decline at increasing rate. Did not want to wait for those two curves to cross.
Lord only knows what tmr brings. I can honestly say that it feels incredible to be able to sleep, have financial peace of mind and significant control of my time.
Summary, time is precious. Can always get more money / stuff. Not time.
Good luck with the decision!

Sounds like you got it figured out. I retired about a year ago with very similar objectives. It's worked so far!

Congrats. I plan to join you at the end of the year.
My plan is to wake up, get coffee, and pet my dogs while we decide what to do that day.

Your path to retirement sounds a lot like mine. Worked and saved the last 30 years with the goal of retiring at 55. I turned 55 this past year and while financially able to retire, I decided to work three more years at the most with the ability to shut it down at any time between now and then. I was then diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in October. I'm retired now. Time IS precious. More isn't always better.

Prayers sent out to you. It hurt reading what you wrote.
I’m in the same position but 2 years behind you. Financially already can pull the ripcord, but mentally I feel like need to work 2 more years. Time moves so quickly now and I’m never 100% sure what’s the right time to enter retirement.

Man, felt your post like a hammer.
So so sorry to hear. Sending you prayers and all the best wishes for health and long retirement time.
I knew time was precious. I now feel it like never before!
All the best to you.

Don't get any animal that requires someone to come to your house and feed/care for it if you want to hit the road for a few weeks.

You're giving me flashbacks. I was diagnosed with 2B colon cancer at 47, lost a foot of sigmoid colon, retired a few weeks later prior to hitting 48. It's been 12+ years with no recurrence for which I am thankful. My wife and I have way more $ than we will every spend and probably leave it to our nieces.
