As a 9 yr old listen to the games on WJBO starting in 1976. That summer we made our first "big" family trip from BR to Houston. We did Astroworld a few times and the Astros in the dome and each night would came back to the motel to watch Sugar Ray, the Spinks brothers and Jenner in the Olympics.

I was at LSU in '86 and spent the entire afternoon at Freds watching the 16 inning NLCS loss to the Mets. As bad as it was, the '81 loss to the Phillies was worse. Just devastating.

Time for some Phillies payback after we sweep the Yankees tonight!

Remember Bob Knepper started that game... He didn't throw heat but he has some nasty breaking stuff... That curve he threw was slow with a huge break in it.

Went to my first game when I was 7 or 8 during the aubrey huff, biggio, berkman days. Really became a big fan during the Carlos Lee, Oswalt, Berkman teams those were a lot of fun teams to watch.

I went to a couple games when I was younger but didn’t really become a fan until I moved to Houston in 2016.

That was an awesome time to be an Astros fan. Minute Maid was still new. Bagwell, Biggio, and Berkman. Had Roy O, Petit, and Clemens pitching. Closer was Lidge. That 2005 team felt a lot like 2017 when we had all the pieces finally to make a run after what seemed like forever walking lost in the wilderness. However unlike 2017, we get to the big dance and run into a chainsaw called the White Sox.

I can smell the Astrodome. How cavernous it was & how bright the lights were

Eating Luther’s bbq before games
Watching the game from the OF cages
Begging my parents for a Rafael Ramirez broken bat in the gift shop
Eating a churro for the first time
Listening to Milo Hamilton post game

First game I went to was Astros vs. Padres in the dome in 1977 with my dad, brother and uncle. I was 6 years old and just remember being amazed at the scoreboard and the overall size of the Astrodome and not much about the game itself.

Also thought it was cool that Judge Hofheinz had an apartment out in right field. Here he is watching a game from his "living room":

Have attended several games since in both the dome and at Minute Maid.

I grew up south of Houston and lived down the street from J.R. Richard's nephews. They were my childhood neighborhood friends and he was my favorite player at the time. I remember being upset when he had the stroke but as a kid, I didn't really understand what that meant. I just knew it was bad.

Started listening to the games on the radio as a young kid every night around 1983. Seldom was a game on network TV but when I would visit my granpare ts in Texas they had local channel 20 and I could watch the games that whole week and see what the players actually looked like. Went to my first game in 1985. Kevin bass hit 2 HR off Mickey Mahler of the Montreal expos. I'll never forget walking into the dime that first time. Truly the 8th wonder.

May 1979. We had just moved to Houston and it was a great time to be there sports wise. Luv ya Blue (RIP), Rockets were good, and in 1979 the Astros made a run at the NL West.

The next year cemented my fandom, with being so close to the World Series. I moved away the next year but have remained a fan ever since.

Early 70s. Would say my first game was 1973 maybe. We were horrible but the worst player on the bench might as well have been Babe Ruth to 8 year old me.

Stayed up many a night listening to Gene Elston on KLVI 560 out of Beaumont (Gene >>>>>Milo) when I should have been sleeping. Loel Passe was great too. “Now you chunkin em”

Cesar Cedeno was the shite in those days and JR Richard was a youngster but you could tell he was going to be the man.

Then came Jose Cruz and the 80s heartbreaks. Cruz was and still is my favorite Astros player. Blowing the Phillies series was brutal and I still have hate for the Mets from 86.

Still remember the sights and smells of the Dome (cold air would be blasting when you walked in out of that hot arse parking lot) and even though MMP is better from the fan experience I find myself missing it at times.

The scotch flowed and the room got dusty when Yuli squeezed that last out in 17.
