How about just remove state income tax on everyone? If you're willing to do it for something so trivial like football team talent acquisition, then obviously the tax is not that important

A bill exempting NIL earnings
Need to figure out how I pay all of my employees hourly minimum wages, then pay the rest of their compensation in NIL

Agents are charging college athletes between 10-20%,
The athletes don’t seem to notice they are being are fleeced the by their representatives, and no one is complaining about that huge chunk .
Yet, politicians think that the same 19-20 year old is suddenly going to base their transfer decision on a few more percentage points they will owe on the back end?
One reason why NIL has exploded is because of all the agents, quasi-agents, and their representatives flocking to this new goldmine in their industry. NIL/Portal representation is the golden goose in that field.

Exempting income taxes only for NIL is wrong.

Is NIL considered endorsement income?

I'm going with yes

frick that. Why should people who actually work their asses off pay taxes when millionaire football/basketball players in college get a free ride?

Yeah this pisses me off.
I get taxed on everything I make, then taxed again on millions of other things. A few years ago I sat down, did the math, and roughly 40% of my income goes to some form of tax.
Then that tax money helps pay for the local shitty NFL team with players that hate everything about me and my family.
Frick this all the way to hell.

If there is one thing that will make me just completely give up college sports and never give another penny to LSU again, it’s this.
Those kids make money, let them pay taxes like the rest of us.

Because you (the collective "you") also demand that LSU (or your favorite college team) win at the highest level. Coaches in states like Florida, Texas, Tennessee can use the no state income tax climate as a recruiting advantage. Come to Tennessee and pay no state income tax on the $2M you're going to earn....or go to LSU and give the state 3% of that. It's the same recruiting advantage businesses in certain states use to attract talented people in other lines of work
Then eliminate state income tax for everyone not just college athletes.

So if they’re going to do this for college athletes, why wouldn’t they also do it for pros?

Bad example. Because George doesn’t pay taxes on his tips.

So millionaire 18 year olds will be exempt from taxes? No way that should happen.

They should pay state income taxes and the “jock tax” is coming for them next.
Exactly… there should be an added tax on the bribes these kids take.

Because college athletics is still morally superior

So Bill making $3 Million in NIL, along with his free tuition, room and board, playing QB at LSU won’t be subject to paying state income taxes. However, George bartending and waiting tables at Gino’s in BR to help pay for his college expenses will have his earnings subject to state income taxes.
That’s really shitty. We should abolish all state income tax in LA so everyone is in the same playing field

Either tax all income or tax none of it. No carve outs. Any exemptions should apply across the board to all earners.
