Maybe because we led the way in dropping oppression of women.

Their fricking union agreed to this! They willingly did this. A real life example of virtue signaling.
“Zimmerman said he believes the deal will create a bond between the teams, which have largely operated independently of each other for decades.”
“We’re rooting so hard for them; they’re rooting so hard for us,” he said. “It hasn’t been like that in the past.”
Pretty sure these statements from Zimmerman is pretty clear evidence that there has been a divide between the men and women. Hopefully he is right about this bringing the two sides together because it really has felt at times that you were either for one or the other. It’s not like any of us would know if there was a divide anyway because there was no chance these professional players were going to go around and advertising it.

A great way to bring the teams together is to make the team that makes more money completely acquiesce to the team that makes less money and give their money away in the name of virtue signaling.
I, for one, would be esstatic to see my paycheck go down, in order for them to get a raise for no reason.

I think it's more likely that the men just don't care enough about the money they're losing to take the PR hit that would come along with uttering a negative word about any of this. Which is sad, because it'll be used as a precedent down the road against men who do need the money.
Behind the scenes, I'd imagine their thoughts on the matter are the same as every other person with common sense.

I don’t think a man will ever play for the USMNT again who “needs” that money

This is utterly insane and morally wrong on so many levels. Unreal.
Guess next now is the money pit that is the WNBA. Let’s take away 50% of the NBA’s earnings and give it to the WNBA. That’s the Woke thing to do right?

James Harden almost certainly won’t be worth the 40 million plus he’s getting, likewise Russell Westbrook and John Wall… Lebrons a billionaire, he doesn’t need his.
Cut theirs in half and give it to the WNBA

I didn't mean them specifically. I meant a different instance where there's an equal pay argument and someone tries to point back to this as some example to follow.

Great News!
USWNT can now spend more money to attract teams outside the Top 30 to play in the #SheBelieves Cup for now on.
No reason to take unnecessary chances versus competition just outside of the Top Ten for the annual propaganda tour.

If there was actually a divide between the programs, it was a more recent thing brought on by Rapinoe's antics.
US Soccer has done more to promote the women's game than any country in the world. Yet the women's team displayed their gratitude by calling the organization misogynistic and suing them.
If I were on the men's team, I wouldn't want to be associated with the women either. Support for each other is nice, but it's pretty irrelevant in the scope of success for both programs.

I can only imagine the capitulation and spin on all the ESPN carwash show lauding this landmark decision that should be a sign for all other sports...yada..yada...yada.
And absolutely no one will even dare question any aspect of it. It's comical.
I have no idea how they fare in terms of money brought in vs. their male counterparts via attendance, tv revenues or what have you. I mean is there as much paid attendance and U.S. Women's soccer matches as mens?

The only reason I made the post to add that.

They are all overpaid.

looks like the men's national team just took a huge step back.
I wasn't expecting us to win a world cup in my lifetime, but this clinches it.

So will the Federation quit subsidizing the Women’s Club League?
Looks like it. The few women that play on USWNT may have just killed women's pro soccer in USA, lol.
Additionally, in a significant change for women's soccer in the USA, the U.S. Soccer Federation will no longer pay the NWSL club team wages of USWNT players — that will be the responsibility of the NWSL club.
The federation for years paid for those salaries as a way to support the fledgling women's professional league and help keep more popular USWNT players stateside, but that arrangement will no longer exist moving forward.

USSoccer gets a win in court, but rolls over because of PR.
They deserve whatever results from this.
