All they have to do is implement some kind of transfer restrictions (e.g. you get one move and that’s it) and it fixes a whole lot.

And then SCOTUS will come in and strike that down.

And since this country is crazy for football,

But you can't really say that. Part of the country is, but large parts aren't.
If you travel on weekends, you may land in parts of the country where there is NO college football coverage on Saturday night news. That is in states where the colleges include Division 1 schools as well as the lower number Divisions.
Watching some of the lesser bowl games, the stadiums were empty or at the very least the fans came camouflaged as colored seats. What was viewership for those games?
When Saturdays in fall, any Saturdays, not just away games in the SEC are fully booked for weddings without working around games, then we'll know that the tide has turned. (Double meaning intended.)

Just because the SEC is collapsing doesn’t mean the sport is.

Of course I say that tongue in cheek, but the reality is this new era is hurting the SEC since their major advantage has been taken away. So, sure, I understand the angst and whining form SEC fans. But I also expect SEC fans to be smarter and look at the sport overall and realize having other parts of the country enjoy success is good for the sport. Bama and UGA won 8 of 14 Natties - that was not good for the sport especially knowing it was due to the bagman system that Saban specialized and Kirby brought to Athens.

College football is finally healing after decades of being run by conmen and cheaters from bowl committees, to AP voters, and scummy coaches many of you idolize. Sure, changes will come to NIL and the portal but the days of the corrupt and below board past are over. If teams want to spend 2 million on a player then everyone knows.

The next generation of fans aren't being cultivated. Kids can't grow up idolizing players because the players exist in ur team for 1 year and disappear.

Bingo.

The collapse won’t happen tomorrow, or even in 5 years. But I could definitely see interest in the sport leading to major attendance declines further down the road.

High schools dropping the sport because of medical/legal/insurance reasons may choke off the supply of players.

If your high school is thinking about dropping football, they weren’t producing future college and pro players anyway.

For every fan of a SEC team who will go 7-6 in the future instead of 9-3 and lose some fans, they will be replaced by other teams, Did you not just see Indiana, freaking INDIANA sell out Mercedes Benz stadium?

I remember all the threads on this board by UGA fans about “taking over the Rose Bowl” and when they “took over Autzen stadium” and were acting as if it was something special. What’s special is winning. Win and fans appear. My little ole team who has a constant home attendance of around 40-45,000 when we are average. This year we sold out several games because we were “above average”. If we ever went 12-0 we would also sell out stadiums because fans are thirsty for a winner.

But I understand that SEC fans believe it’s all crashing down because your teams have proved themselves to be inept when competing on an even level. SEC coaches are being exposed and QB’s are being exposed without 4 and 5 stars all over the field. The sport is GAINING fans.

NIL being a joke
What does this even mean?

NIL appears to be very serious - and NIL-era games have been very highly rated.

It will collapse if the SEC or B1G try to breakaway. but leave too many teams outside their new super league causing those schools to kick start antitrust lawsuits. Nothing ever good happens when CFB ends up in a courtroom so we can assume the court will rule the super league as a "cartel", Heck they might even rule that all college sports conferences are cartels.

Everyone will be an independent and Notre Dame will at last have their revenge.

Now of course the SEC and B1G could use some intelligence and make sure any school not in the SEC/B1G that has a reasonable large college football fanbase and history will be invited into the new super league. But does anyone think that will happen? Considering the SEC and B1G can't even agree on a playoff format, we may have two super leagues that refuse to play each other and both will still find a way to get sued.

I’m not sure they would have a case… the money made in CFB tv contracts is off of the fickle public interest and that can always change

In real terms does an SEC and/or Big Ten breakaway affect random other teams that much? Most of college football will keep on as they have been before

I am actively rooting for the collapse. It’s out of control. Unsustainable and the pace has seemingly accelerated.

Feels like that is the only course of correction at this point.

How many people do you think even know when the NC is being played without looking it up?
