Freebird
Back in the 80s and 90s the local rock radio station would have a poll leading up to New Years Day for the best ever rock songs and every year Stairway and Freebird would finish 1 and 2.

How could you possibly argue that Kashmir is more iconic than Stairway?
That’s not what I said. I qualified my statement; you just chose to ignore it.

Paradise City has to be in the top 10.

Comfortably Numb should be up there with Stairway and maybe Freebird
I guess it depends on your taste in music

Hard to pick between Purple Haze and Satisfaction.
Piece of my heart should get some consideration also.

It has to be Stairway. I mean there are literally signs in music stores for this.

Satisfaction
That's the correct answer. Satisfaction is the very apotheosis of rock and roll, with its spirit of angst and teen rebellion. And it was the best-selling song of 1965, and is great music the likes of which had not been heard in rock before its time, not even the Beatles.

Iconic or an anthem…
Iconic for me is easy. It’s Freebird from the fabulous fox theater in Atlanta. One More From The Road live album. I put it over Stairway because it was “LIVE”. No do overs or editing. Stairway is a great song but not LIVE…
Anthem is one of two….
American Pie or Hotel California.
American Pie is the ultimate story telling song. Pure perfection..
Hotel California is an Anthem by The Eagles that soared them into superstardom AFTER having the top selling album of all time with their greatest hits 1971-1975 album. Adding Joe Walsh was the addition of the century for them…
Honorable mention for both iconic and anthem is Dream On by Aerosmith…

A greater addition than Journey adding Steve Perry, Fleetwood Mac adding Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham or Bruce Dickinson joining Iron Maiden?
