Makes sense due to an El Nino forming by late summer.

Now it will be the worst season since 2005

IIRC they did predict an active season for 2005

It’s supposed to be a really strong El Niño year, which usually means the Atlantic is off limits to long trackers but there can still be a few home brew systems in the gulf.

I can't remember them ever predicting an average season; which seems like the safe bet.

Like anyone can even know this.

CSU does above, below, and average. Their last forecast for an "average" season was 2016. NOAA does above, below, and "near normal". Their last forecast for "near normal" was 2023.
*I only have through 2023, I'd have to look up the two most recent years.

Oh hell, guess I need to start stocking up on water, batteries and canned goods now because we are going to get slammed with hurri-cane after hurri-cane.

There are a looooot of signals going off right now with various indicators in the pacific suggesting a super strong "the nino" event that will be in play during the peak Hurricane season window in the MDR.
Maybe a homegrown system or two, but MDR development and long track types seems tough.
ETA: Ridge of Death makes its brutal return to the South (best weather channel impression)

Welp…we’re screwed. Multiple hurricanes coming through my back yard. Gotta verify insurance coverage just to be safe.

This is the NOAA atlantic named storms & hurricane predictions vs reality from 2003 to 2024
2005 and 2020 were epic years

I'll take last year's "elevated" gulf activity.

No Levi or Duke predictions-no care.
For what its worth HTS has been working hard to spin up (pun intended
) a second team. We will be able to help people in 2 areas now. Combined 4000-4500 meals a day capacity.
God has blessed us with a great team and we will be ready if the need arises, but here is hoping we dont need to go anywhere.
