I never bought a new car. The first car I ever bought was in 2003. It was a 2001 Buick Lesabre with 518 miles on it. I got it for $12,000 and drove it until the wheels fell off, almost literally. The rear axel broke in 2017, and I decided to buy a used truck as opposed to fixing the axel.

First new car was 2005 Dodge Avenger. I paid $15,800. Had to order it because I wanted a few certain things, premier wheel and spoiler but on the base model with a 5 speed.
I was very proud of buying that car.

The first new car I bought was a 1995 E36 M3 and it was right at $39,000.
To this day it is still one of the best driver's cars ever built.

you always hear folks say that they don't make cars like they used to. seems like all the stories my dad/uncles tell about their cars involve rusted out floors, leaking roof, and ripped seats at 10 years. Were cars really better back in the day or is it boomer reminiscing/nostalgia?
Simplicity (including weight) and subjective beauty are really the only pros of older cars. Modern cars are significantly better than older cars as a whole, it really isn't even close.

I sure as hell don't remember how much I paid for it, but my first newish car was a 1997 Ford Falcon XR6.
It was a nice upgrade from the mustard yellow 1976 Toyota Corona I had been cruising around in.
