Stop all gifts for anyone 18+. Brings back the true meaning of Christmas.

It’s Jesus’s birthday. It’s not anyone else’s.

Have family get togethers with games. Spend the money on good food and drink.

Buncha whiney bitches in here. Go buy some gifts and give them away, that's what makes you feel good. Or grow the frick up and don't do it if it's so "stressful".

I fricking hate the constant buying for each other thing. We had several years where everyone agreed to not buy for each other and not even each others children. Let's just get together, chill, eat some food. Grandparents still bought for kids.

Now this year everyone is forgetting it and wants to go back to buying shite for everyone. It ruins Christmas for me, what does so and so want, how much do you spend on paw paw, what do your kids want?

Really bring out the bah humbug in me.

I’m tired of exchanging gift cards with my extended family. Let’s just keep our funds in our own pocket.

It's like the scene in "Donnie Brasco" when Donnie and Lefty hand each other cards with cash to each other for Christmas. What's the point?

Adults buying other adults gifts on Christmas is the most asinine thing I’ve ever heard of.

This is the best way to go about it in my opinion.

I don't like to shop. I buy a case of these nun made candies every year. Give away to relatives and have enough left over for grandchildren to give to their teachers.

It really is. Then there’s one show off who spends more than the agree upon amount.

But when you are getting drunk I guess gift exchanges are fun.

Been there. Someone will violate the pact, guaranteed.

My mother-in-law insists on taking a before, during, and after picture of every gift that is opened. It makes getting through the gift opening a boring chore.

Half the time her flash fails to work, so we have to pause while we change batteries.

And the gifts she gives are pretty much worthless.

That is the end of my bah humbug rant.

I agree. I’m not hard to figure out and I actually pay attention to family members and their interests. We also do stockings. Nothing crazy or big just little stuff. I’m doing some apple pie moonshine and a boxed shrimp and corn bisque that’s easy and as good as any restaurant I’ve been to. Also some beef jerky. Some married in members wanted to get rid of stockings. I did not attend last year because of they moved it to Christmas Eve. It’s been christmas morning for my entire life.
Rant over

I just got one from my daughter in law that she “solicited” donations from all the siblings.

Out of curiosity I looked it up online, it’s currently on sale for $23! She asked the other kids to kick in on a $23 gift!

I know the thought counts, etc but her and my son aren’t hurting for money they’ve been on 3-4 vacations this year does she really need the siblings to kick in on $23? She probably made money on that shite.

Merry Christmas to all.

Best thing I ever did for my family (extended) was convincing the adults to draw names and set a limit for the gift. Then we just buy for the kids. Has made it much more enjoyable and easier to shop.

Immediate is easier because I keep a running note on my phone throughout the year when someone mentions they want or need something.

We draw names and get a gift for one person amongst my siblings and the partners. The same goes our the kids amongst themselves. That’s how we always did it when it was my cousins, aunts and uncles at my parents Xmas Eve party growing, but these days it’s just my immediate family and our next generation.

My preference is for everyone to come up with their own idea for the other person, but hints/lists can be given indirectly through a proxy like my parents or a spouse. Gift cards have been banned for over twenty years.

My sisters and I will usually do a joint bigger gift for each of our parents, then a smaller personal one. My wife and I also will usually make or buy something small for my sisters and their husbands.
