In my area, the panic buying has started! I went to Sam’s (to get ahead of the crowd) and was suprised to find no parking spaces and no shopping carts. There are plenty of items on the shelves, but at the rate people were arriving, I don’t expect it to be that way for long. Next thing I will do is fill my truck with gasoline.

ETA: This was in Central Mississippi.

I filled both my propane tanks today. Should be great weather for hanging on the porch around the fire pit.

I used Instacart this morning. It was worth the $50 tip to not have to brave that shite.

Didn’t need any TP, but everyone coming out had some in their cart!

People are so stupid.

They act like a nuclear bomb is gonna explode.

There may be ice and there may even be some snow and could lose power but it’s only gonna be like that for a day or two.

Tell that to people in Houston. Some people lost power for half a week last time something like this happened.

I don't blame people around here for being gunshy. There are so many people here that all it takes is one fault and the downwind effects are more severe than you'd think.

Same. Not preparing for another Great Depression or anything. Just have to make sure that I have the essentials to get me through a few days. My truck is 4WD, which helps a little, but I'd rather not have to get out in that stuff and have some slapdick slide into me.

I was at HEB in Temple and people were polite if not a bit hurried, but the HEB workers restocking were the most assholish I've ever seen while they were restocking. Just blocking off whole rows unnecessarily and DGAF.

Understandably

My brother lives in Clinton. He was trying to get a generator for our 94 year old grandmother. He said there aren't any 1800 watt generators in a 150 mile radius.

We live North of San Antonio.

The ice storm in 2021 knocked our power out for 10 days.

If I owned a store anytime there is a weather event or a pandemic.. I would limit certain products to so many a person then get them on the backside.. When stores run out and people are all looking to buy those products, my store would get free advertisement by everyone talking about "Owe's has water in stock along with toilet paper, etc". That's when I would go up a dollar or two on all those items.

Shelves are empty at all nearby HEBs in Austin. Going to be below freezing for literally one day
