We had a great discussion here about the Thrive Plan which included a revised Library tax and a transfer of millions of dollars from the library’s bank accounts to the EBR parish general fund.

Thrive was defeated leaving the Library Board unfunded. Accordingly the Library Board is putting forward their new tax proposal.

Link to article

The tax being put forward is higher than the amount put forward in Thrive plus it appears that the Library isn’t going to transfer surplus dollars to the General Fund.

The numbers:
Previous tax- 11.1 mills (rolled back to 9.89 mills)
Original plan by library 10.5 mills
Thrive plan 8.3 mills
Revised plan by library 9.5 mills

I think the 8.3 mills is plenty especially now that they are keeping all of their surplus. I even suggest that they go lower.

I'm voting for it. Our libraries are one thing the Big Raggedy does well and I don't give a shite about how much surplus they have in the bank.

With rampant fraud being exposed I'm voting no on any new tax or tax renewals.

You should vote no, but the library system is fairly well run. They just get way too much money. They would do fine with 6-7 mills.

CATS, COA and BREC on the other hand should be eliminated, eliminated and gutted respectively.

Marxist run library system and your vote doesn’t matter ..because proprietary software counts our votes…it will pass and Marxist indoctrination will continue….
Until we remove the (s) election machines…

You’re a fricking idiot and have no idea how our voting machines in LA work.

And I will gladly vote no on this.
The library has already told me they can operate at less than this.
Get it down to 8.3 or less and I’ll vote yes, b/c I do appreciate how well run our libraries are.

Look at the library and the services it offers. Common sense says they dont need to be funded on the level of the police or BREC.

It’s not even a library anymore. This is just a jobs program and throwing money away. I’m voting no and I have 33 people telling me they are voting no.

All this shite we waste money on in Baton Rouge. Let’s build a splash pad? Why should the government build a splash pad? Why should government build 32 libraries in a Parish that’s losing population?

BREC, the library system, CATS, etc. are all stealing money. They over pay to try to keep their millage high.

I vote NO on all library taxes. Our library system was great with great reference material but that great material is all gone when the old library on Goodwood shutdown. Science and engineering is all Ned in the primer crap/far left nonsense now.

I love the library system here. I think the millage should be set to maintain, not expand. This proposal goes too far with capital improvements.

Only property owners should be allowed to vote on property taxes.
