The worst era (outside of Prince, who isn't rock)
Prince spanned several genres and rock was one. Let's Go Crazy is a rock song. Then add covers of Queen, CCR, Foo Fighters and Jimi Hendrix (wasn't the Dylan arrangement)? Rock halftime show.

Kid Rock coming out to bawitdabaw was pretty badass, even if most of it was over a track. His last song was incredible.

Petty, Rolling Stones, The Who, Springsteen
They are in their 80s or already dead of old age.

Whatever happened to Gary Cooper

It’s pretty simple, rock music isn’t as popular as it once was…

Medicare, AARP, and arthritis probably.

Is it too much to just give us Metallica? They're still touring and sound incredible in person.
I've seen Tool, The Offspring, Better Than Ezra, Snoop Dogg, etc. too many acts to mention. But The Rolling Stones, in their very advanced age, were incredible. So was Paul McCartney.
Even acts like Three Dog Night were fun. Either you have talent or you don't.
Metallica - love their version of "Whiskey in a Jar". Didn't know it was a Thin Lizzy song, as well.

I am a "young" 44, but grew up on Sam Cooke, Elvis, CCR, Fats Domino, etc.
Musicians today, and I use that term liberally, do not know how to play an instrument & write meaningful lyrics.
There's still young musicians out there playing country (alt country, not pop country) and indie rock, metal too, but they are way out of the mainstream now. They wouldn't have booked a jazz or disco or doo-wop act back in the 90s, either.

The rock and country acts were on the TPUSA halftime show.

Rock has died. There is plenty discussion about it, but the last rock star is Maynard and he is in his 60s.

Gene Simmons was right - - Rock n Roll is dead. No one rocks anymore

I doubt even Taylor Swift can get the gig.
She wants the rights to her work. That's really why she hasn't done it.

With no exaggeration, he's more likely to come out in drag than Bad Bunny was:

PS If you got that reference you are not in a demographic the NFL cares about.
Well, Stevie Nicks proudly stated that she wouldn’t have had a successful career had she not murdered her babies.
Eta: why do people downvote known facts?

The nfl unfollowing him after his name showed up gives me hope

I'm with you, but name me a significant new rock act since 2010?

Jay z happened.
I can't wait until 50 Cent's documentary about this guy comes out in a couple of years.
