An old farmer with deep pockets used to carry one around and show us kids his $1000 bill when he bought burgers at the joint I worked at in the 60s. He kept it in a plastic wrap. He loved to talk about it.

I googled "$1,000 bill", you can find it if you really want.

I actually showed my kids two $500 bills the other day. I turned down a $1000 bill one day. I just happened to be at the bank (was the manager) when the person came in.

I traded a $500 for a $1000 bill on the top floor of a hotel in Htown back when. My DKE contact shall remain anonymous

OP if you want one thats genuine, check out Heritage Auctions
There is Currency Auction coming in early January and you can have your pick of 500 up to 5000 notes.
If you are set on a $1000 note, here is a link to the auctions.
Just to save you from the headache of if its real or not, these are all rated and legit.
Now, if you want to go to a coin shop or eBay, thats on you to verify, but I collect currency and have used Heritage and Stacks Bowers a lot.

Interesting website! I notice the vast majority of these notes are from the ‘30’s and 40’s….is there a reason for that?

The $100,000 bill was used by banks to transfer funds and was never in circulation for obvious reasons.
