If you’re going used, there’s always something like the Lexus SC430.
They have other options as well, depending on what you want to spend.

Miata is my top choice for a fun little roundabout
I'd go with an NA if you can find one. They're getting pricey.
Mini is an excellent car, but expensive to maintain
Z3 Z4
Jeep 2dr Wrangler soft top is my DD. I love it
It has to be said that no convertible should be an automatic transmission

It's called a panoramic sunroof. It's too fricking hot to pretend you're going to sit in traffic with a convertible top down to burn off the mommie's basement skin tone.

As far as people calling the Miata “girly“, they need to go take a ride with somebody from the Mardi Gras Miata club around a track and they’ll realize quickly how much of a pussy they’ve been strapped into their truck or suv.
just a public service announcement: driving fast or slow has nothing to do with masculinity/femininity or being/not being a pussy.
but yes, people absolutely associate miata's with middle-aged douchebags.

Sorry yall drive cars designed for housewifes. Maybe consider a Camry next time.

Can you say “mid-level convertible” one more time?
MC = Mid-level Convertible?

The ND Miata is the most pure fun car I have ever driven by a mile.

Trends have moved towards Jeeps as cruising cars.

If I ride in those with the top down, it feels like my hair is trying to be peeled from my skull.
I never take the top off my Corvette for this reason. I can’t see the road with my hair flapping all around, even if it’s tied up.
Also - even if it’s a beautiful day, BR traffic can put you sitting in the beaming sun for half an hour.

Fun topic!
Not sure it’s been mentioned but getting a 90s or early 2000s BMW three series convertible is always a way to go. I have an E30 convertible, but those are getting harder to find in many of them have been properly beat up
You can still find a pretty decent E36 convertible, which has a nice retro feel for a reasonable price
Make sure to find a manual and yes, make sure to set aside some money for whatever plans on breaking that particular year
Also + one for Miata’s, they are a hoot when driven properly

I bought a new Audi A5 convertible in 2020. Wasn’t practical for my needs. I could only take one customer to lunch in that car. It had back seats but were very cramped for any normal sized man. Sold it in 2022 after 2 years.
But it was the only convertible that I ever owned and I loved that car. The look with the top down, the bells and whistles, and it was such a smooth drive.

Back in the mid/early 90s, I wanted a convertible (I was in my 30s). Started looking at C-3 and C-4 vettes, then decided on an 80 CJ7.
Really enjoyed it. Nothing inside mattered if top down and it rained. Noisy, rough riding, bad mileage (esp after dropping an AMC 360 in it).
Have had a jeep since then (80 CJ7, then 00 TJ, now 2015 JKU - tho i haven't removed the Freedom Top on our JK Unlimited except to replace the gaskets. Afraid of leaks.
The CJ and TJ were fun alternatives for a convertible..

You have a point about poor choices in convertibles.
I tried to buy a Z-4 years ago, but it is clearly built for short people. I could not fit inside that tiny car. When you struggle to operate the brake, something is seriously wrong with the engineering.
Looked around for another decent convertible but a Sebring was the main option so I gave up and stayed with Harleys.

It is a poor climate for a convertible. Hot as hell in the summer. Humid. The best convertible weather is 70's with a lower humidity. 60 to 78 is my convertible top down range.
69 300 convertible is a great driving convertible - very smooth over shitty roads which is handy in Louisiana. But, with a black vinyl interior, hot sun will bake you.
My 45 Jeep (in the background of the pic) is easier to drive with no top. It has a broader temperature range.

In the early 2000s, the "attainable" mid level convertibles were the Dodge Stratus, Chrysler Sebring, and Toyota Solara.
There was never a convertible version of the Stratus. Just a coupe version, which was really a Mitsubishi Galant.
