To be fair, Covid didn’t wipe out any population. To answer the question, I would assume they weren’t hit particularly hard because they are primarily an agrarian society who works outside all day. Total speculation, though.

Yes. The Left’s gross overreach of power during COVID should never be forgotten. Sorry, not sorry.

They were too busy signing up for Medicaid, SNAP benefits and Federal Housing Allowance.

There's lots of data out there showing how it affected the Amish and Mennonite communities.
Many got secretly vaccinated, some died. The difficulty with getting a firm grasp on the data was because such a low number of COVID tests were taken in these communities, that the CDC could not properly assess data on deaths.
I've attached a link discussing just this from the Penn State - Population Research Institute

quote:Yep, along with 90% of the OT claiming they didn't get the vax. Meanwhile, probably 90% did get the vax since no one knew wth was going on back then. Many won't get the van next time including myself. But the ones claiming they didn't when they actually did are really pathetic. Who GAF if you got it or not?

These threads always show how little people actually know about the Amish.

The same reason covid didn't wipe out other populations. The cure caused more deaths and that is a documented fact.

What overreach there are you referring to? Think real hard about why that picture is completely non-responsive to the poster you glibly replied to.
Posted on 9/10/25 at 11:17 am to Jack Daniel
Because Covid was a bunch of BS

I know the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints (FLDS) actively "bleed the beast" to support the many sister wives and their dozens of offspring. Just never knew the Amish did the same.

Because they stay clear of our population, they're Smart.

quote:
New research from West Virginia University sociologists suggests this face-to-face interaction, coupled with a distrust in preventative medicine, led to “excess deaths” among the Amish population in 2020.
And
quote:
Amish and Mennonites had a 25% higher rate of excess deaths during 2020
Are not equivalent statements. Per the paper implied as evidence:
quote:
Amish reliance on horses and buggies for transportation limits their geographic footprint.
and
quote:
Mennonite groups are not geographically bound in the same way, as they use carsfor transportation and meet weekly in church buildings for religious services. While traditional Mennonite groups restrict technology usage, assimilated groupsembrace modern technologies and have slight separation from larger society (Hurst& McConnell, 2010; Kraybill, 2010).
Therefore, no conclusion can be drawn about Amish excess deaths per the poorly constructed and included data tables. The data includes both Mennonite and Amish deaths. The month in question November 2020 has a higher average age of death and is only 70 individuals who could be either Mennonite or Amish.
