While it lasts.

Umass-Lowell should retire his number, build a statue and rename their arena after him.

Hellebuyck had 42 shots fired at him today (from a team basically comprised of the equivalent of 1/2 of the NHL All-Star roster)…

...he saved 41 of ‘em

I saw the Canadians were saying something about everyone knows who the better team was. Well it was pretty clear who the best player on the ice was yesterday and he was the dude in between the pipes for the United States!

Pure saltiness from the Canucks. Hockey is a lot like baseball in that in the same way a pitcher can completely handcuff the other team, a hot goalie can be the difference. Canada can whine all they want but the fact is that they didn't make the plays when they presented themselves. Mackinnon hit the side of the cage with an open net, McDavid overskated his break away and didn't really generate a quality shot. Canada couldn't finish and they couldn't solve Hellebuyck. That's a major part of the game, solving the other goaltender and the US did a better job of finishing plays against Bennington than Canada did against Hellebuyck. Sucks to be 2nd in your own game Canada, it really sucks to finish 2nd in both genders.

They're gonna be stuck in denial mode for a long, long time after talking shite over winning the 4 Nations last year.

The narrative of "We didn't have Crosby" is so tired. Is the team on its own not stacked with elite talent throughout the lineup? Hearing about "you can't beat us best on best" has become "Yeah but we didn't have Crosby". Boo fricking hoo.

Mackinnon's whiff on the open net and McDavid going hero hockey 1 on 4 in OT certainly didn't help them but yeah Crosby was needed. Having a healthy Quinn and elite Hellebuyck were the two big differences from 4 Nations.

Canada's top line was elite. Crosby and Marner were excellent on a second line but a dropoff after that. US had a balanced offense up and down the lineup where all four lines were contributing. Plus, Canada had the third oldest team while US had the second youngest team.
