Yea the fact she had one working leg had nothing to do with it I’m sure. The fact that this could happen is an embarrassment to our country. I don’t even blame her I blame all of the people who should have been there to stop this from happening and didn’t. I assume it was the money/TV people. She is a victim of their greed and stupidity if ask me. She shouldn’t have done it but she’s an athlete I get it. She needed people around her to protect her from herself.

This is a pretty hot take. And not a very good one. Other skiers have competed with these injuries. It’s not an “embarrassment to our country”.

She’s a world class athlete. And from what I’ve read, pro skiers have some of the strongest quads sport for sport on the planet.

She likely ran a battery of tests and thought the margins of asymmetry were enough to give it a go.

Exactly. World-class athletes know their bodies and the limits to which they can push themselves, especially ones as accomplished and experienced as Vonn.

Yet there are still countless keyboard warriors boasting that they knew better than her. I've seen more tweets today calling her "selfish" than ones hoping her injuries aren't severe. These people are insane.

It’s amazing that we live in a world where an elite athlete goes full send on her way out and people with cheeto dust on their keyboards are talking mad shite about her.

Your reply is ignorant as hell considering Vonn crashed and broke her leg.

I had no issue with Vonn trying to compete, if she was the best option and the USA was limited. If she was, no issue at all.

I don't think it was a likely a good idea, and I think the pressure from the media to push a story in an otherwise boring Olympics was extremely strong. So I question the motivation.

I have no issue with Vonn wanting to go full send at the end of her career and accepting the consequences.

She hooked a gate. That just means she was cutting it as close as she could. However, she had gotten way to wide and low on the previous gate and it likely put her off line for the gate she hooked.

can you tell if it was her arm or pole? it almost looks like the basket caught on the gate as she was skiing by.

also wonder if it would have made any difference if she was using a gate guard on the pole like slalom racers. or if she was running the leki trigger poles and if they should have released?

Picture posted on the previous page sure looks like her entire arm and pole went into it.

I don't know 100% but to me it looked like her arm caught it.

You do realize that multiple skiers have competed with torn ACL's before. Saw a story about Italy having a female skier winning the worlds a few years ago with a torn ACL (was about a month old, and not 1-2 weeks)

Breezy even came out and said that there are a lot of skiers that compete with injured ACLs, and it's a lot more than people may realize.

I just wanted to bump to point out to the OP and other doubters that Federica Brignone, at 35, just won her second Gold of these Olympics (Downhill and Giant Slalom), missing an ACL.

She crashed badly last year and didn't get the ACL repaired because rehabbing the surgery would have kept her out of the Olympics.
